Apollo 1st Gear January 19, 2008 Share January 19, 2008 (edited) Watch out! Speeding heavy vehicles ahead Letter from JOSEPH YEE I REFER to the report, "53 hurt in chain collisions" (Jan 18). . I am surprised that the antics of the drivers (and perhaps the owners, too) of heavy vehicles ?lorries, tippers, bulk concrete carriers, container prime movers, trailers and coaches ?do not seem to catch sufficient attention of the authorities. . Drive along any expressway or major multi-lane road during off peak hours and you will find heavy vehicles keeping pace with you at 80 to 90kmh or worse, tail-gating you. . Stand on a pedestrian overhead bridge over one of these roads for 10 minutes and you don't have to be a rocket scientist to figure out that many of these heavy vehicles are speeding beyond their 40kmh to 60kmh vehicle speed limits. . By the way, heavy vehicles are supposed to be fitted with speed limiters. But the observations on the roads will suggest that there is widespread tampering of these machines between vehicle inspections. . Heavy vehicles may form only a small proportion of the total vehicle population, but their bulk and their large number of passengers mean that accidents involving them tend to be more serious. . The authorities are correctly concentrating their enforcement efforts on drink driving. Keep up the good work. . But please take a closer look at the antics of the heavy vehicle drivers or owners. For too long they seem to have been winning this cat and mouse game. http://www.todayonline.com/articles/233019.asp Edited January 19, 2008 by Apollo ↡ Advertisement
Renegade777 5th Gear January 19, 2008 Share January 19, 2008 But he forgotten to write that there are also many van/lorries driving slowly on the centre lanes. These inconsiderate drivers pose dangers, slow down traffic etc to other users. They are behaving more and more daring leow and would move into the inner lane only when TP is in sight. Other then that, the road machiam theirs. Worst, some have been spotted driving on the outerlane(overtaking lane) on expressway.

Biting 1st Gear January 20, 2008 Share January 20, 2008 There was a time where TP was very heavy handed in catching speeding and many motorists complained. Now people are asking them to step up enforcement on speeding. So what do people want?
Mobile1 1st Gear January 20, 2008 Share January 20, 2008 We have to also think for those lorries drivers as well. They have timing to meet and their schedules are damn packed. If they are not punctual on their next destination, their rice bowl is gone. Remember my dad used to be a lorry driver too, he also rush like mad and quit in the end due to stress from bosses, customers and road users. But i do agree that some foreign worker drive like they are back in their hometown.
Renegade777 5th Gear January 20, 2008 Share January 20, 2008 (edited) Yeah, but they should keep pace with the vehicles travelling on the same road. Go with the flow of traffic. If cannot, they should return back to the inner lane after overtaking slower ones. Even car drivers are expected to do that. Instead, they roadhog the whole lane, not giving a damn to the people driving behind them. That is damn inconsiderate, selfish and sick fellow drivers. Renegade777 5th Gear January 20, 2008 Share January 20, 2008 They are not busy catching cars speeding. Think are are busy catching cars that cross over the road limits especially by deploying mobile cameras on overhead bridge or hiding some quiet corner. Speeding and exceed road limits different hor.
