Seems to makes sense now why gov built those 'extra' ERP gantries in Toapayoh, upper bukit timah, etc. It is to make sure everyone pays! The remaining 54% don't be too happy yet.....

54% of drivers don't pass through ERP gantries on the way to work

EACH time the tolls on Singapore's roads rise, a chorus of complaints sounds from drivers across the island.

But the reality is that less than half of all motorists pass through Electronic Road Pricing (ERP) gantries on their way to work.

A Singapore Press Holdings survey of 295 motorists found that 46 per cent fork out money for the privilege of driving on the island's roads.

Of those, about 70 per cent pay $3 or less every morning.

The survey was done over three days in mid-November, about two weeks after ERP rates were raised by 50 cents.

That brought tolls on the Central Expressway from the Pan Island Expressway to $5 between 8.30 and 9am - making it Singapore's costliest road.

What's new. ST always comeout with silly surveys and often good at exaggerating the numbers.

Survey on price hike is a good example. Do survey when ppl doing business had already raise their prices in anticipation. [rolleyes]

This divert from the original objective of setting up ERP.

To regulate the flow of traffic or to make sure everyone passes through them ?

Until today, was the original measureable been achieved ?

So why are we still allowing more ERP to be added , when the original objective has far from been attained.

"EACH time the tolls on Singapore's roads rise, a chorus of complaints sounds from drivers across the island. "

What complaints? To them , we are some dis-organized and scattered whining puppies... No, they just increase the price and along with that the numbers of gantries... Obvious...sweatdrop.gif

"A Singapore Press Holdings survey of 295 motorists found that 46 per cent fork out money for the privilege of driving on the island's roads. "

More accurately" survey of 295 motorists found that 46 per cent coughed out hard earned money to just to drive to work and home.sweatdrop.gif

Anyway, I doubt the accuracy of the figures.

Increase in transportation contributes to inflation...

Increase price of ERP and numbers of gantries are not the only ways to control traffic. Its the lamest and most unpopular choices. When will they ever think straight. And I really got sick and tired of those highly ppl that could think up those ideas and claim that its the best in the world...hur.gif

Let us pray...that they will not push their luck further...

Sometimes I question the validity of these silly surveys! 295 motorists? What kind of survey is that?

Why don't you start a survey on MCF to see how it compares [;)]
