Mussorgsky Neutral Newbie January 13, 2008 Share January 13, 2008 (edited) Today, I took my Honda Airwave for a car wash. I noticed that one of the tyre is quite flat as compared to the rest. Took a closer look and realise that it has been punctured with bubbles coming out when water is spray on it. I went to took a plier and manually pull the "nail" out and it was like pulling a sword out of your heart with air gushing out like crazy! I had to put a cloth to cover the gaping hole and took out my FIX A FLAT aerosol can and pump the sealant into my car tyre. After I had finished pumping all the sealant in, I quickly drove my car for a few Km as instructed and went on to the petrol station to pump in more air. After the air was pumped in, the tyre went back to its normal size and I can continue to drive my car as though nothing has happens! Just an experience that I will like to share with you guys. My previous car, picanto has encountered similar incident but with a staple and was fixed by FIX A FLAT also and went on for a year without any problem before I sold the car away. Emils 2nd Gear January 13, 2008 Share January 13, 2008 Ermm.. I thought the advice is usually not to pull out the object that has punctured your tire until you are at the air pumping station/workshop? What if so much gas escapes that your tire becomes totally flat and you can't even drive it out. Change to spare tire...?
Mussorgsky Neutral Newbie January 13, 2008 Author Share January 13, 2008 From the FIX A FLAT instruction, it says if possible pull out the object. So I pull it out. I did not carry spare tyre with me as the spare tyre is too much a hassle to change and it is for temporary use only. The FIX A FLAT aerosol can also provides compressed air and can help to inflate your flatten tyres but for my case here, the hole is quite big and I have to use a cloth to cover it temporary. I think I shall bring my car to the workshop for inspection first. Shall update you guys later.. :-)
Liuhao Neutral Newbie January 13, 2008 Share January 13, 2008 where did you get the fix a flat and how much? btw i drive airwave too.
Boyboy 1st Gear January 15, 2008 Share January 15, 2008 big supermarkets or hardware stores shd have fix a flat. i bought mine from sheng shiong i think.. so far i had two punctures but never used it. once i kena at the tyre bead, where fix-a-flat doesn't help. the other occasion i managed to drive to the toh guan hankook before my tyre fully deflated so i saved the 10 bux (for the FAF). btw, using spare tyre is cheaper than fix-a-flat, if u can spare the time and energy.. cos for fix a flat u have to get it repaired anyway as it's not a permanent fix read on this forum that the chemicals will corrode the rim or sth so one has to go to the tyre shop ASAP to remove the FAF chemicals.. i'd use it more for trips up north where it may be inconvenient or unsafe to change out a flat tire by the road
Adawang 1st Gear January 15, 2008 Share January 15, 2008 check if your puntured tyre can be continued to use. The interior will be coated with a layer of sealant including the rim interior.
Penthousepauper Clutched January 15, 2008 Share January 15, 2008 Have you thought of pumping nitrogen into your tyres? Gas will stay longer, even for punctured tyres? I think Honda provides free top up life time, but not sure if they would fix your punctured tyres for free.

What if so much gas escapes that your tire becomes totally flat and you can't even drive it out. Change to spare tire...? Yap, the usual procedure is to leave it there and drive to the nearby tyre shop to fix it. Being in Singapore is convenient. If in MY, I will change to spare tyre. I always keep spare tyre in the car and I don't find it a hassle. It could be a life saver sometimes. By the way, why this topic is a "Forum Highlight"? Roberttan 5th Gear February 29, 2008 Share February 29, 2008 yes it is a temporay measure, fixing a holed tyre best is repair from inside, reason is simple did you make sure there is no internal injury?(due to fun flat) so always make sure is tyre is safe to use after repaired. Nitrogen gas would not slow down this kind of leak, so dont any how say OK. N2 gas only slow down the leak due to natural lost of gas. and regular pressure maintenance is still a must (meanning check of air pressure) i can not understand why the Honda guy told honda car owner about no need to care about tyre pressure after pumping with netrogen gas( wrong message) prematured tyre failure can be dued to running at low air pressure ↡ Advertisement
