This morning my Oct Tour gear box was locked and unable to change gear in Tampines Giant. [sweatdrop] I could start the engine but unable to move the gear, almost need to tow it to workshop, [sweatdrop] luckily I contacted Philip from Servotronic to assist me to blind the computer and unlock the gear, so that I can drive to workshop to replace the faulty brake switch which was cost me $70.00. (Thank Philip) [:)] I had driven for 52,000km in 2 1/4 years, this is the first breakdown.

hmmmm, yours is the 3rd case of brake switch problem that was shared here in quite a short time frame ..... sweatdrop.gif

Anyway, can share how to "blind the computer and unlock the gear" so that we know what to do to get the car going to the workshop instead of waiting for tow truck ?

If you're in SG still ok, can afford to wait for tow truck. Imagine if you're somewhere in one of the NSH rest stop and this happens ......... sweatdrop.gifsweatdrop.gifsweatdrop.gif So this is a very important thing to learn ........ tongue.gif

This is to by pass the safety system, if the driver never follow the steps his car may reverse in high speed and cause accident!

Is the brake switch one the foot step on ? Wow !

So the SW breakdown caused this ? That's bad.

For foot brake SW, it only caused brake lights not able to light up when the SW spoilt and shuold not "Stop" the car from moving.

It happened to My G9 but only a engine warning lamp turned to warned me.Ride still can go anywhere with the lamp on. DIY striped down the SW, cleaned the contact points and the SW worked again until the ride exported at 3 yrs old ( SW broke down after 1.5 yrs). BTW, the SW from AD is $35.

Well, it is still consider "breakdown" since it could not move off w/out con to the CPU. Or "Brakedown" ? [laugh]

hey just wondering, first breakdown after 2/1/4 years is considered bad right?

most of my friends who drive the typical mazda3/nissan sunny/Picnic etc dont have a single major breakdown before (3 years). at most, only irritants like one of the door cannot be opened by the remote. headlamp spoilt etc.

i'm not challenging ur thread. no offence. i like skoda. underrated conti imho.

Mine went down on the dot of 2 years, about same mileage as yours.

No warning, no symptoms at all.

Towed to Ubi and managed to claim warranty.

Looks like 50K is a critical mileage.

my brake switch broke down in 3yrs 4 mths. mileage 150k. suggest to change brake switch every 2 yrs to avoid inconvenience.

u got to keep a lookout on ur pipings and water pump.....especially the pipe tat connects to ur air-con heater. my gasket and water pump got burnt because of tat pipe.

Just had a problem with my gear selection, can only engaged 3 and 4. Called AA while waiting found out that it is a very simple fix by plugging back the bushing.jawdrop.gif Happened for the second time over the last 2 years, the last time, that happened to my wife...will take some pictures of how to fit it.

The cars you have mentioned do not have the brake switch, this is not the foot brake switch, this safety switch is controlled by the CPU!
