Long Queue But No Queue For Passengers

It had been 4 days into the new year and into second working days. Taxi companies are crying foul since the fare increased in December 2007. [:p][:p]

With the increase of taxi fare from $2.50 to $2.80 and surcharge during peak hours which current standing at 35% of the total fare, taxis are queing at taxi stands in town and Orchard Road waiting for passengers.

Serve them right to ComfortDelGro who initiate the fare increase by announcing suddenly the increase in fares. Caught many by surprised.

As reported in the New Paper today : quote - For most taxi passengers, the biggest pinch comes when they take cabs from CBD area during peak hours of 5pm to midnight because it means paying $3/- more, on top of an extra 35% surcharge on the metered fare. On Wednesday evening at Orchard Road, taxi queues were spotted everywhere.

At the taxi stand outside Paragon Shopping Centre, the line of taxis was so long that it stretched to the predestrain crossing and people had to walk around the taxis.

Passenger Madam Salimah, who works at Suntec City, said: "It used to cost $7/- to take a cab from her home at Telok Blangah and it cost $14/- now.

For once, I will avoid taxi even if my ride is in AD servicing. [:/][:/][:/]

i reckon that the boycotting of taxis can go on and the cab drivers start returning the taxis back to the taxi companies since they cannot afford to pay the rent. Then the taxi companies will feel so justified for their own action.

If it is a small increase, people will still accept it. But the price hike is crazy.

The question is for how long can the Taxi driver wait. We can stop taking cabs for 2-3 months but these guys needs to eat as well.

This will be a test for the people power. I hope for once, we can tell the big boys to stop 'bullying' the consumers into accepting everything they threw at us.

if they really hv helicopter vision as they claimed, they wud hv seen this coming.

the fact they failed to resolve this only lead to one conclusion, they really clueless what to do.

now after implementing it less then 1 month, they kena drastic setback. to move back to previous only slap own face.

in one month time CNY will b over, spending will start to freeze and the whole machinery will sieze.

Similar sentiment.

I drive OPC. So sometimes take bus/MRT... then meet wife for dinner and the Taxi back home.

It used to be significantly worth our while to do so, now it's better to just tear the $20 coupon.

Bottom line: any day that we might wanna take cab, it's better to just drive

Cabbies are earning more

http://www.todayonline.com/articles/230379.asp

Quote:

"From our initial findings, income of drivers has gone up by about 10 per cent," said ComfortDelGro spokeswoman Tammy Tan, in response to Today's queries."

That should imply taxi rental should be up then..weird that they can't name one cab driver to say he is earning more. Maybe can't find a 'grassroot leader' who drives taxi?

the ppl will slowly get use to the price again and start to take cab.. jus a matter of time..

People getting use to the price??

How about people getting use to taking MRT or Bus and not taking taxi [sweatdrop]

I think both of you are correct. People will accept that taxi trips are gonna cost xxx and adapt. Some go for MRT, some go for bus, some will decide to get a car, some just continue paying.

That being the case, I would think that the number of people taking taxis WILL be less then before .... just how much less only

Ppl will avoid taxis in town during peak hours. Other dan that ppl will still take cabs.

I think so far the 3 cab companies who announce price hike is affecting the other companies who didn't increase anything. They must be cursing the 3.

"Cabbies are earning more"

This claim is very subjective as many taxi drivers complaint of less earning. How on earth did ComfortDelGro got that figure ?

Over the TV interviews, many cab drivers complaint of less earning until they (taxi drivers) are doing moonlighting business apart from driving taxi...... [sly][sly][sly]

Yesterday over the news 5, one taxi driver caught for selling & distributing prono calenders... [sweatdrop][sweatdrop]
