Hi.

Driving a small hatchback currently on:

1) HU: Pionner 8850

2) Amp: 4 channel Infinity (old sch)

3) Front: Infinity Ref component

Thinking of geeting either an entry lvl speaker for rear or active subwoofer that can produce backgound bass only. Please help to recommend?

If you don't want a passive sub, go for an active sub. Everyone is trying to get up front bass but you want background bass [laugh]

Forget about the rear speakers because they can only be as big as 6.5", which your component midbass should already be capable of doing. It will also distort your soundstage if you pump up the rear volume to get the bass.

A 8" active sub that goes under your seat will be able to give you some lower frequencies which your components cannot provide.

However, don't be too optimistic about upfront bass, you'll most likely get some boomy cabin bass.

The best is till a 10 or 12" passive sub in the boot.

If I interpret you correctly, all you want is just some bass notes to make the whole music sound complete? An 8-inch active subwoofer will suffice in your case if you have some other contraints or considerations not stated in your post. wink.gif

haha.. i can't really take deep heavy bass, will cause my head to spin. Pref is still with clear vocal music. Assuming i'll not get another amp, in this senerio should i use e remaining 2-channel to power e rear or bridge for a passive subwoofer? Saw in another thread that active sub will disperse bass all over the ride, so having e thought that i might regret doing so. Also e amp is already under e driver's seat, sub will have to go to e boot.

Another thought is to shift the front component to e rear and replace with mid-range at e front. But think most mid-range are mounted to the dashboard? Is it possible to fix to the front side and still enjoy 90% of alike pleasure?

Don't really get what you mean by "shifting the front components to the rear and shift the mid-range to the front side".

2-way omponents comprise of a pair of tweeters (1"-2") and midbass (6"-7") (3way has an additional 3"-4" mid).

The usual way of mounting is, tweeters (and mids for 3way) on the A pillar or dash, midbass on/under the door panel.

So I don't get what you are trying to achieve by shifting the tweeter and midbass to the rear and the midrange to the front? Doesn't make sense.

Sorry really newbie to ice. Sat in a stream at Audioimage last wk n was introduced to staging. Was told e front 2 speakers mounted at e dash were mid range speakers.

e qn is if i move e existing front component to become e rear. Then install mid range to e front, which is at e door n not e dash. Is it possible to achieve slight effect of staging?

**but frankly i dun fully understand e term staging n mid range
