Galileo Neutral Newbie December 29, 2007 Share December 29, 2007 But don't forget the cost of petrol has been increasing ! 2 years ago is $1.30 for grade98 now is more than $2.00 I don't think the price of petrol will drop It will take less than 3 years for normal usage and even with that estimation, it still be can considered as a good investment. Also CNG will not remain the same as $1.07/Kg as the petrol price keep going up. Maybe when petrol reach $3/L, CNG already at $2/Kg. So it is whether the owner want to sacrifice the loss of power and boot space for the first 2.5~3 yrs before he break even for the CNG conversion. ↡ Advertisement
Albeniz Turbocharged December 29, 2007 Share December 29, 2007 Not just the possible rising price of CNG itself. In Singapore, you will never know when they will decide to impose some funny tax structure system on CNG cars. The COE was such a system suddenly dropped from the sky more than 15 years ago. Albeniz Turbocharged December 29, 2007 Share December 29, 2007 (edited) Thinking of conversion also, but now I am sorting out the logistics. Care to share with us the following info:- How large is your tank...What is the distance that could be covered by one tank... How often do you have to fill up... Do you usually fill at Mandai, Jurong Island or JB? Edited December 29, 2007 by Albeniz
Dirtrider_ak Neutral Newbie December 29, 2007 Share December 29, 2007 (edited) a lot to consider. Based on MY consumption it lasted 250KM per full GAS. I top up at JI work near there. Not advantage mehh ? Then more will come up if there is demand .... more advantage. My tank is on the earlier thread scroll up. Albeniz Turbocharged December 29, 2007 Share December 29, 2007 (edited) I top up at JI work near there Then you have very good reason to do the conversion now, as it is at your workplace. For my case, the to-and-fro filling trip itself would use up 20% of the tank. Edited December 29, 2007 by Albeniz
Dirtrider_ak Neutral Newbie December 29, 2007 Share December 29, 2007 (edited) That I will understand ... but it is still cheaper to go up and down you know .... anyway ... it is a risk I took that risk CNG might still fail you know .... as for now results is coming in and I have no complains/ The paper also mentioned it will increase installation cost ..... so being speculative I have to make my move no need to follow but it is just 2 cents tip. Infra also coming soon so lets seek just like buy 4D .... Edited December 29, 2007 by Dirtrider_ak
Kelpie 2nd Gear December 29, 2007 Share December 29, 2007 Those who dare not venture giving negative results but those who did is reaping rewards your own choice in life no need to debate over it. Choice is yours, run on petrol and I will run on CNG. Riding a bike is already a risk but I have done it is all I can say and I am still here no doubt ppl say it is dangerous and high risk. Life is an advanture I am a risk taker. 1. Don't get me wrong, I almost became one of the early adopter you know and was phone interviewed by ST..I didn't proceed then because of the followings: a) Considering the need to change car, b) I frequent MY and my petrol is all made in JB so I already enjoy S$1 per liter, c) Only one refill station then. Talk so much abt serangoon refill station since ages, d) I was told by the sales rep that the tank is 100Kg and I don't want to give up my valuable boot space as I sometime need to put my dad wheelchair in. 2. However, I'll reconsider again if the followings are real: a) I want a tank that is not more than half the weight of 100Kg at reasonable cost. 30-40kg is my limit. b) Not loss of power. c) MY petrol price same as SG or of little difference. 3. CNG is proven and the risk of explosion is rare but again no one want to risk their lives on China QC. Regards,
Albeniz Turbocharged December 29, 2007 Share December 29, 2007 The paper also mentioned it will increase installation cost ..... I tend to feel that the installation cost is likely to decrease rather than increase. Basic theory of economy of scale applies here. As the demand increase, the factory could buy the materials/components in bulk at a lower cost. Hopefully they pass this savings to the end-users. Just like LASIK eye operations. It used to cost $5k but as it gained popularity, the surgery now cost $2.5k.
Dirtrider_ak Neutral Newbie December 29, 2007 Share December 29, 2007 (edited) Not when uncertain hype like COE or other tax ..... I wonder if the lic for them to operate will increase or not ....? Where the cost gonna be ? LOL Well I do wish that you'll get your wish.... it will be good for my next car ...LOL This is what I have to highlight .... you also a risk taker like me ... hahaha just different views and choices made... there will be no right nor wrong in life .... good discussion... i'll do hope it will bring down the price also so that I can by 2nd cars to retrofit... maybe a merc Kompressor model.... Albeniz Turbocharged December 29, 2007 Share December 29, 2007 a) I want a tank that is not more than half the weight of 100Kg at reasonable cost. 30-40kg is my limit. I am not sure of the actual weight of the tank. But if it is 100kg, I might have to consider as it is like carrying 2 extra women even if the car is supposed to be empty except for a driver only. Dirtrider_ak Neutral Newbie December 29, 2007 Share December 29, 2007 (edited) it does not make a difference to me .... 80% of the time I am alone ... I dun carry spare tyre ..... nor rubbish ... that will account for yr weight .... if want lighter pay more for new technology carbon fibre tanks. Then there is no weight penalty .... My rims are only 5kg u know ....the cheaper mods I did did not save me as much. The CNG can see 40% saving even it is heavier.... Galileo Neutral Newbie December 30, 2007 Share December 30, 2007 Wah..your CNG conversion really favour to your need and requirement. - Work near Jurong Island - Doesnt carry load of stuffs in your car boot - 6 yrs old car with no warranty issue after conversion - Travel a lot per mth - Solo driver with not much degrade of power Good for you to see the saving For me also frequent to JB to pump petrol which already enjoy $1/L, I work in North area and sometime MIA during lunch time to JB pump petrol and then u turn back. Not much congestion during lunch time and the process only took about 1.5hrs. Who knows maybe few yrs later I might switch to CNG if the situation change?
