Pisces69 6th Gear December 26, 2007 Share December 26, 2007 I'm not sure about your case but I get my mech to apply some high temp grease on the brake shims every time he changes the pads. It prevents brake squeak. If it is a rough grinding feel, it means your brakes r wearing thin & u need to change the pads. The pads usually have a thin layer near the end which acts as a indicator to let u know the pads r wearing out.
Apollo 1st Gear December 26, 2007 Share December 26, 2007 cud b end of life for the brake pads. usually manufacturers add extra metal fillers to create this screeching warning effect.

Evoluzio Neutral Newbie December 26, 2007 Share December 26, 2007 Sometimes the brake pads may tend to bind to the disc, so it gets worn off pretty fast. I had a set that lasted me half a year on my right rear wheel. The noise it made was a pretty low pitched groan when it was worn down, not screeching at all. As long as there's noise coming from the brakes, better to get it checked.
Apollo 1st Gear December 26, 2007 Share December 26, 2007 depends, some pple invest in brake dust cleaners to protect the rims fr dust bites and not careful spray onto the rotor or pads, the pads will die faster. read the instruction on the dust cleaners... Pisces69 6th Gear December 26, 2007 Share December 26, 2007 Well it all depends on how much & how heavily they r used, I guess. My pads can last 3-4 years even. And I had to change not cos they were worn out. No, in fact there was quite a lot left. I had to change cos they had glazed over & the grip was lessened. Fortress Clutched December 26, 2007 Share December 26, 2007 It it is the front and it is a short time, you can visually look at it and understand whether it is worn, for brake disk. If it is uneven, there might be a seized brake caliper. If it is the drum(back) brakes, it is probably dirty, however, if it due to hard braking, then it is worn, in your case very unlikely..
