Hi ppl [:)] ,

Just went for my 2oK servicing.

Though it was stated tht the servicing package included changing of spark plugs tgt with engine oil, the mechanic told me that my spark plugs were of the good ones and could last till 50K.

What does it mean by good? I queried if it was iridium plugs, unfortunately he was from china...

I heard that my car had stock iridium plugs. The thing is, how long can the 'good' spark plugs last?

I really appreciate some advice here as this is my first time owning and maintaining a car.

Thanks.

just stick with the major plug brands and you'll be fine; NGK, Denso, Bosch & Champion.

Normal use, copper plugs good enuff.

Iridium last longer much longer but cost a lot more as well

I was told my NGK iridium plugs can last 100000km. So far I used 60000km and still going. Everytime servicing the guy say still good, no need to change.

I re-gapped my Denso Iridium Spark plug.

My stock plug have a 1.3mm gap but the Denso Iridium comes in 1.1mm gap. So had to re-gap it to use in my car.

Although the Iridium tip looks fine even after 35,000km, the ground electrode was in pretty bad condition. The V-groove that's supposed to be on the ground electrode was already flattened.

My stock plug is a double platinum type with a platinum tip on the ground electrode. At the same mileage, the double platinum type was in better condition than the Denso Iridium Spark plug.

Conclusion... get a double platinum or double Iridium type if you want a long lasting spark plug. For performance, nothing beats a 0.4mm tip Iridium spark plug.

the Denso SK iridium series is 0.7mm diameter Iridium tip + Platinum coated ground electrode, good compromised on performance and long mileage thumbsup.gifthumbsup.gifthumbsup.gif

re gap means to adjust the gap size (center tip to ground electrode) according to your car engine's requirement. It is stated in the car manual. Most Jap are using 1.1mm
