Hi All,

I installed the MIO phone coming to a year liao but always but technical problems. [furious]

Like telephone line cut off by itself, Internet no wireless signal,..etc. Sometimes when urgent wanna call back home but the line is down.. [mad]

I complained and the technician came to fix a few times liao but problem still exists. [thumbsdown][thumbsdown]

Any bro/ sis got any comments?

I think the usual problem is where the modem is being tap to. If it is the main line, then there should not be a problem. But if it is on the split end of the line, then a 'stopper' is needed. If your house had a lot of extended phone lines, this could be a problem. Thing is that when you call the help desk, I guess you have to advise the Customer Care officers to ask someone to check the internal wiring. Chargeble or not, not very sure. Anyway, technicians got 2 type, one is outsourced and the other is staff. Request a staff to come down, they are more motivated and generally more helpful.

The first time they came, say need to install a "micro filter". After installed 2~3 months no problem.

When problems come back again then they say "oh, now its the signal from outside not strong, not my mio set problem"; dunno adjust wat then again 2 weeks not problems.

But its come and go. Very sian with this type of quality and support. [thumbsdown][thumbsdown]

Hi all what's a Mio phone? Is it a phone line with different line and number from the land line that I subscribed?

My house, a resale flat, have 10 phone socket points. Not only that, 2 of the socket points have 2 extension each. Simply crazy!!!

When I subscribed for a Singtel line, only 1 socket point is active. I had to pay additional charges to activate another 3 socket points. When the technician activated the 3 requested sockets, automatically another 4 socket points became active. Bonus? In other words, I have total of 8 active sockets.

Less than half a day, the line could not receive any incoming call. When making outgoing call, there was constant interference. The technician came to de-activate 1 of the sockets that caused the problem and that caused another 3 sockets to become inactive. So I am left with 4 active sockets and all work fine.

Then I subscribed for Singnet broadband. At the socket point with the microfilter, one line went to the modem to my laptop via usb connection and another went to my fax machine to my telephone. Now and then I am experiencing Singnet network error and I had to click on the smartfix icon. Is that the cause of the network error?

Singtel will be using the modem (RJ45 port) to connect the HD top for mio TV. Then I will be left with no port in the modem to connect it to a wireless router. What can I do if I wish to connect the modem to a wireless router?

If I wish to have a Mio phone (which I understand is free), will it complicate the above arrangement?

Your resale flat having 10 phone socket means a lot of wirings being done.

Each of this wire has a tendency to corrode and rust at the exposed end, due to our humid weather....multiply by 10 phone sockets and you get the idea. These rusted/corroded wires create noise and will drop your Internet connection as well as MIO.

Rather than wasting time troubleshooting the wires, the best thing you can do is to rerun new wirings inside the house that you will be aware of and only where needed. Remove any old wirings where you see them.

If new wirings can't pass through certain fixtures like cornice, it's too bad, you have to run outside of it.

Don't think so. The owners were a Malay couple and one of the spouses is a teacher. The house was rented to a Malaysian couple who shared the flat with another 3 Malaysians. According to telecom, previously the house has 3 separate tel lines. Even then, can't understand why so many extensions.

If only exposed end tend to corrode and rust isn't it easier to snip off the exposed end and reconnect it instead of changing the entire line? There are 10 socket points probably because the previous occupiers had 3 separate tel lines.

The rust tends to spread inwards. You can try snipping, but you might find yourself keep snipping longer and longer, until you think it is easier to just replace totally for peace of mind.

Telephone wires are dirt cheap. For $25, you get a whole roll of 100m from electrical shop.

I've seen some bad wires in my house (resale also) too.

I just ripped everything out. It's easier than tracing the old wires installed by someone else.

SmartFix could be telling you what kind of problem you are facing. Call the technical helpdesk and provide them the code that is popping up, if any.

I agree that replacing all the wires is best. But ALL, except one in the living room, are hidden in the cornice and I am trying not to change if can.
