Reuters Clutched November 30, 2007 Share November 30, 2007 I don't think so.. I just went yesterday.. there are a lot of other brands of GPS (such as TIBO, Holux, Packard Bell etc.).. You might want to go PW and check.. Which model are you looking at? I am also buying the Garmin one this weekend..

Allen 2nd Gear November 30, 2007 Share November 30, 2007 i bought nuvi300 at PW yesterday at $690 with map and 1 free upgrade of map within 1 year. got lots of models at PW. have been using it, not to bad, still trying to get used to the term the voice is using, eg, keep right means go straight and stay on the road and not to filter out. Chickenfarm Turbocharged November 30, 2007 Share November 30, 2007 You got to be careful cos that applies to Highway (when you have an exit on the left) On normal cruising, "keep left" may mean turn left cos Garmin doesn't use "turn" for that matter. U have to look at the White Arrow on the screen to confirm. I was kind of confused oso initially cos my previous GPS of another brand uses "turn left now" or "turn right in 250 meters" but the Garmin says, "In 250m, Keep right"...so it takes a little bit of getting use to
Redstorm 1st Gear November 30, 2007 Share November 30, 2007 Actually, u shouldn't have bought the original map. The $200 could have been better spent on something else. The original map can't beat the free malsingmap and it doesn't update the map very often; perhaps once a year or slightly longer. On the other hand, the malsingmap gets updated as frequently as once a month!!! Besides, you end up paying money for subsequent update, after the first free one. Ncp91 1st Gear November 30, 2007 Share November 30, 2007 GPS won't work underground unless you have one of the very high end inertial guidance models that feature a compass and patch into the car speedometer to guess at a car's location when it is out of satellite coverage. Civic6656 1st Gear November 30, 2007 Share November 30, 2007 Yes unless, gyro sensor is built into the GPS Navigator for directions.
Adrianli Hypersonic November 30, 2007 Share November 30, 2007 True that GPS dont work underground. But if there is no KPE on the map, the GPS software cant even route u to KPE. Same as CTE, although I cant receive signal in CTE, at least the GPS direct me to use CTE instead of normal roads. Having the KPE in the GPS does not mean u can receive signal in the tunnel. Its for routing to your location at the shortest distance. I know such problem, cos of my experience wif the bloody Tibo n the distributor Elecom.
