Kyojin 1st Gear November 25, 2007 Share November 25, 2007 was trying to add AutoRX to my gearbox, but when i opened the filler hole, a lot of fluid leaked out. so thinking that i lost quite a bit of transmission fluid, i opened the drain plug and everything came out! so i bought myself 2 quarts of Redline MT-90 (75W90) gear oil and it's GRRRREAT! shifting feels much better now and doesn't feel as hard to engage gears. Especially reverse, there is far less crunching noise now. ↡ Advertisement

Kyojin 1st Gear November 25, 2007 Author Share November 25, 2007 $22 / quart. C5X transmission needs 2 quarts, so $44 labour your own.

Softail Neutral Newbie July 1, 2009 Share July 1, 2009 Hi, could any one tell me what is the best engine and gear oil for 3E? And where to buy redline oils?
Kyojin 1st Gear July 1, 2009 Author Share July 1, 2009 you can use MT90. very good gear oil. PM me if you want a contact to buy. your gear box will love you for it and it's very smooth after flushing with MT90. engine oil, you can use anything basically. people will tell you to use synthetic, semi-synthetic and all the Ultra Helix rubbish. for a Starlet, don't waste money on Redline or Royal Purple or Mobil 1. get regular mineral oil and change more frequently (5k intervals). i used a 5W30 in a black Toyota bottle. relatively cheap for 4 litres. filter i used Nippon Micro, cheaper than Toyota OEM. a lot of people and mechs tell me i'm crazy to use such a "thin" oil. but if you engine is in good condition, why increase your FC with a thicker oil? afterall, the owner's manual does state that 30-weight oil is acceptable. at the same time: just a word of warning that if you have been using mineral and suddenly you change to synthetic, the cleaning agents can cause the piston rings to leak and you will start to burn oil. it's good for a new car doesn't mean it's good for a 16 year old car. ↡ Advertisement
