Zcold 2nd Gear November 19, 2007 Share November 19, 2007 the brits love the EP3... they adore it more than the Golf gti.. of course they would expect something more from the latest type r! its like how one will feel if the new GTR performs worse than the R-34... bear in mind its the type R.. not some family car.... ↡ Advertisement
macrosszero Turbocharged November 20, 2007 Share November 20, 2007 They never really got to try the EK9 did they? That's why they waxed lyrical over the EP3, I guess.
Kenmical Clutched November 20, 2007 Share November 20, 2007 EK9 stock is not a fair comparison to EP3 cos the displacement is bigger in the later. Tat is provided if they can find a stock EK9 in UK still. But then again...they should put the JDM FD2R into the fray too.
Thestig Clutched November 20, 2007 Share November 20, 2007 Quote 1. It was a 12 pages report on their STIG Test of 29 hatches. 2. The test comprises of 7 testers on the racing circuit. Didn't actually mention the numbers of laps covered but the way I read, it should be at least 3 full laps. It mentioned that the verdict on Type R is overwhelmingly positive and enthusiasm from STIG is a rare commodity, yet it comes.... Regards, Actually, the Stig prefers the GTi or the Focus ST more. But he prefers F1 or stripped down road cars the best.
Metalslug Neutral Newbie November 20, 2007 Share November 20, 2007 (edited) yeah, confirm EP3 will ra*pe Ek9. its acceleration outdoes the EK9. saw it on vid, e japs raced each other. closest was the DC2 actually to me the best type R still the EP3 Edited November 20, 2007 by Metalslug

Abba Neutral Newbie November 20, 2007 Share November 20, 2007 Quote Pity those owners that bought this in SG. JDM CTR is much beter car than UK version. Then again the JDM is so hard core that grannies dentures will fall out . The UK version is more streetable though. They both have their merits. If I wanted an occassional track car, JDM is it. If I wanted to stand out from the crowd in town, I'll get the UK verion The JDM CTR looks and any Civic and can be mistaken for DIRACC Hybrid car. It does have an identity crisis. The CTR replica body kits are so cheap now. No character. Sad
Songsong 1st Gear November 20, 2007 Share November 20, 2007 Quote Who the f*** is Jeremy Clarkson?Oh wait, that senile old geezer? I'm having a laugh He does have a point. A ratcheting seat in a Euro car (honda or not this was designed and built in europe)??? And in comparison to the GTi which is more refined, pulls better and has similar handling, I know what he means. Especially since as hard riding as it is, it does not have the handling of the equally hard riding Clio 197 cup. In short i think he wants the JDM CTR He knows sxxt! I own a UK CTR and i find it a damn freaking fun car to drive. I had drivien the new TT better than the damn GTI. What the F#$K did it do? Step on the damn gas and it just goes. DSG my ass! drive a proper manual car. GTI is not refine look at the interior. drive one before u all make dumb statement. Esp from one old bloke. ask any UK CTR owner if they like their ride first. i am sure the will tell u they love it.
Elfenstar 3rd Gear November 20, 2007 Share November 20, 2007 Considering the sheer number of cars he's driven i think he would be in a better position to make those comments. I've driven a lot of cars, and he's driven almost ALL of what i've drive and much more. Besides if you read the rest of the thread you would realise what context he's making those comments in. Also the only R civic i havent driven is the current JDM R, and as far the UK CTR is concerned in that context i totally agree.
Madsumm 1st Gear November 20, 2007 Share November 20, 2007 anyway.. this thread will invite unhappy reaction from passionate owners. well.. put it this way, without negative comments, there will not be improvements. so take it constructively.. there will be bad cars, good cars, and exception cars... so live and let live.. its normal.. :)
Elfenstar 3rd Gear November 20, 2007 Share November 20, 2007 Dunno lah Kinda reminds me of this HK guy who insisted his r34 GTT is faster than an R32 GTR because its newer
Jensonbutton Neutral Newbie November 20, 2007 Share November 20, 2007 On the contrary, as a professional presenter in his own show, he should realised the limitations of this car before driving it for a spin. Embarassingly, this badly-understeered ratchety-seat earwig faired better than the brilliance of his GTI.
Elfenstar 3rd Gear November 20, 2007 Share November 20, 2007 (edited) If he had taken out the limitations he might as well not have reviewed the car as it would be biased. When you compare you compare the pros and the cons both. I agree with him because the GTi has always been a fast-street car. The R's have always been a street-track car (in comparison, the elise/exige is a track-street car). In the track aspects it fails in comparison to the previous R's. In the street aspects it doesnt have the niceness of the other models he's comparing it to. Don't forget, they have cobblestone roads in the UK which would make the worst of our roads feel like silk sheets, and he has to take that into consideration. If it had the higher bhp of the JDM R with the bigger brakes and the non-ratcheting recaro's (or at least i've heard it has recaros which never use ratchets), with a properly set-up rear end, I'm sure he wouldnt mind the harshness of the suspension. Jensonbutton Neutral Newbie November 20, 2007 Share November 20, 2007 It's fine comparing pros and cons. Car enthusiasts would know this car would definitely not matched with its predecessors before it even hits the track. This new gen Type-R was built more for streets rather than tracks, hence the absolute difference of the mechanical suspension setups. Just look at the weight difference, its a dead giveaway. What the hell is he thinking of? The exception I would take on is his view on the ride quality. For sure, it may be too stiff for a geezer like him, hence he dubbed it bone-shaker. I would rather he get his hands on Mugen RR, would love it if he called it "spine-crusher" Perhaps Honda meant to call this car Type-R(oad)

Falc 3rd Gear November 20, 2007 Share November 20, 2007 (edited) The part he commented the driver's seat doesn't spring back to original position after folding for back access is just hilarious. I think he's saying track use not as good as last gen, street use also found lacking in some ways. Personally I think the car is fine, but H giving it an R badge just to move volume is Maybe saying it's Civic Euro R more appropriate.
