Shull Turbocharged November 19, 2007 Share November 19, 2007 as many have known(and some has tested)..the UK CTR is nowhere near the performance of the JDM CTR.. so yeah, i AM expecting JC to blast the car..he should've drove the JDM CTR.. ↡ Advertisement

Elfenstar 3rd Gear November 19, 2007 Share November 19, 2007 Do you have a link to the rankings or is it in the mag?? If i can see what the ranking basis i might be able to guess what JC was comparing it to.

Relagsingh 4th Gear November 19, 2007 Share November 19, 2007 Quote like mentioned earlier, it's one man's opinion. The problem is it is the same company that said it is the top and the next moment, a negative review. Regards, nah... JC is acting upon himself. the top gear magazine reviewed the cars with a team of journalists.
Kelpie 2nd Gear November 19, 2007 Share November 19, 2007 1. It was a 12 pages report on their STIG Test of 29 hatches. 2. The test comprises of 7 testers on the racing circuit. Didn't actually mention the numbers of laps covered but the way I read, it should be at least 3 full laps. It mentioned that the verdict on Type R is overwhelmingly positive and enthusiasm from STIG is a rare commodity, yet it comes.... Regards,
Odyssey02 Clutched November 19, 2007 Share November 19, 2007 I just watched that episode on Top Gear. Season 10 Episode 6. JC claims that its disappointing in terms of comparision to its previous gen. Heavier car with only a mere increase of one horsepower. A suspension set-up that is inferior to the previous gen. Torsion beam vs independent suspension resulting in greater understeer. Little niggles such as poor rear view visability and a ratcheting seat. The head to head race around the track also had the new CTR lose. His argument was that he'd rather get a 2nd hand previous gen CTR for 10 grand vs a new inferior one for 18 grand. Elfenstar 3rd Gear November 19, 2007 Share November 19, 2007 (edited) Ahh in that context then he's done the usual. Many UK mags have slammed the CTR for the same reasons anyway. I'm guessing they're making noise because he's more high profile or have misread/misinterpreted the context of what he said. I dunno i only watch top gear for their stupid antics and don't really pay much attention to all else now. 5th gear tends to be a better show to watch for testing. Have you seen the one where they "raced" in various forms of transport??? How funny was the stig Edited November 19, 2007 by Elfenstar
Elfenstar 3rd Gear November 19, 2007 Share November 19, 2007 Dun fret. Odyssey summarised the context it was said (2 posts above) in and i totally agree.
Kelpie 2nd Gear November 19, 2007 Share November 19, 2007 Yap, when comparing with the previous generation of CTR... Regards,
Odyssey02 Clutched November 19, 2007 Share November 19, 2007 (edited) I enjoy watching TG for their humourous formats. Fifth Gear seems a tad boring and I would rather read the usual british car mags instead. JC's comments in the show regarding the new CTR actually seem justified to me comparing how it wasn't a leap forward but rather a step backwards becoming a softer car. Anyway. The Stig wasn't so funny. James was worse with his typical 'blurness' towards directions when he drove around London. He came in last with the car in fact. Hammond was first with the bike, JC second with the boat and Stiggy third on public transport. Best episode so far this season was their race across africa in their cheap cars. JC with a hopeless Lancia Beta, May with a Merc W123 and Hammond with a Opel Kadett which he fell in love with and transported it back to UK. Falc 3rd Gear November 19, 2007 Share November 19, 2007 (edited) Here's the link, watch it before it's gone. JC complained about the harshness of the ride been completely unacceptable. If FN2R is harsh, imagined the JDM CTR. And it goes faster than the GTI. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NGqOhX6sXO8 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VOQZ8Oeo5zg Edited November 19, 2007 by Falc
Elfenstar 3rd Gear November 19, 2007 Share November 19, 2007 What i like abt the 5th gear is stuff like the race truck driver talking abt his vehicle dymamics etc which i cant really find anywhere else. Well it wasn't so much the stig but the people around him the reaction of the bus passengers and the people when he walking in the train station were brilliant Btw, don't bash the lancia. they always managed to get it to work again I actually like the "amphibious vehicle" crossing of the channel best this season. Who says the french are not helpful
Odyssey02 Clutched November 19, 2007 Share November 19, 2007 The amphibious vehicle crossing was really a crazy episode. I'm amazed at how BBC spends so much on each episode.
Elfenstar 3rd Gear November 19, 2007 Share November 19, 2007 Definately slower than the GTI when they did a mountain race in wheels aust mag. Same thing happenned with the cooper S and clio 197 even though on paper the clio was superior in performance indicators. The key problem for both cars were they lack of torque below the 5500rpm mark. I managed to get my hands on the group N version of the clio 197 cup for abt 30mins a couple of weeks back. Something quite rare not because there are only 20 (and by right they were made for the UK), but because normally allowable mods for these cars are usually done by race teams rather than from factory. No AC or creature comforts bar the roof scoop for air since it comes with fixed in place perspex windows, full roll cage, ECU, etc but most importantly a 6 speed dogbox. I would love to see a group N JDM civic go against something like this. I'm guessing that the civic would make abt 20bhp more (since this clio runs 20ish more than the 197) but if weight reduction differences are the same the civic would be 150ish kgs heavier. Adds up to being roughly equal so it would be a very fair fight.
Elfenstar 3rd Gear November 19, 2007 Share November 19, 2007 Mind you they got a 2000ish kg nissan patrol not only to float but to cross the channel!!! Top gear is making heaps of $$$. I doubt the BBC would continue to finance a money losing show.
Evoluzio Neutral Newbie November 19, 2007 Share November 19, 2007 It was the previous generation of Civic Type R (EP3) that was tops. This episode he compared the EP3 against the new model (FN2R?). He didn't like the new model, but that doesn't mean that everybody else should hate the new car as well. ↡ Advertisement
