Voodooman Supersonic June 23, 2008 Share June 23, 2008 It takes around 8-9 hours to drive from Singapore to Merang, the main departure point for Redang in Terengganu. 3D2N is too short for a R&R trip to Redang.
Lonewolf73 Neutral Newbie June 26, 2008 Share June 26, 2008 Hmmm... Either extend 1 more day or can take budget airline to KL & transfer by coach to ferry.

Hiphiphoray 6th Gear June 26, 2008 Share June 26, 2008 perhaps you can try desaru or penggarang. cheap seafood at penggarang. small town with cosy environment. can watch the fireflies. cycle around the villages. This is a very good idea !!!!!!!!!!! Eat , sleep , make babies , cycle around , repeat the cycle for 3 days 2 nites.
Voodooman Supersonic June 26, 2008 Share June 26, 2008 (edited) If you like to drive, route 3 would make the long journey tolerable and even fun. I try to limit driving to max 6 hours a day (including stop-overs), it would be too tiring and stressful for me and my family to cover Singapore-Merang (Jetty Point to Redang Island) in a single day. A stop-over in Kuantan or Kijal (good beaches) would be nice. If long distance driving is not your cup of tea, you can take a overnight coach on Friday's night, you will reach Kuala Terengganu at around 6 a.m., in time for the ferry transfer to Redang at 9 a.m. Alternatively, you can fly Berjaya Air from Seletar Airport direct to Redang Island but it means you have to stay with Berjaya Resort for at least part of your stay. IMHO, this should be a R&R trip and you should go slow, I strongly recommend a 4D3N stay to make the trip worthwhile. Voodooman Supersonic June 28, 2008 Share June 28, 2008 I just returned from a 5D4N trip to Redang, my second trip to Redang in 2 years. Parking is generally safe as it is guarded(I seriously doubt the watchman is awake all nights but hey, who is going to steal a car in Terengganu!). I stayed at Laguna Redang and they have a designated enclosed car park at Merang, it is RM 10 per day. When I was there 2 weeks ago, 40% of the vehicles in Laguna car park is SG plated. Tribeca Neutral Newbie July 1, 2008 Share July 1, 2008 hi any feedback for this place thought of going next month www.afamosa.com I just came back from the A'Famosa Wet World in Malacca. I must say that the place needs a MAJOR facelift. A very big disappointment. For the entrance fee of RM$25/adult and RM$20/child, I expected more. Instead, my family and I were greeted by a sorry sight. The rides are those that you can find at Jurong East Swimming Complex, only dirtier. Many of the rides are under repair. The only working ones were the Lazy River, The Wave Pool and a few float rides. The children's playground...I will not even try to describe it. Plus, the prices of the food were also ridiculous. To all those seeking fun in wet worlds, either you go to Sunway Lagoon in Selangor/Kuala Lumpur or stay here at home. You'll find cleaner pools and cheaper food. I also think the drive to A'Famosa is not worth what you'll be getting (toll charges, parking charges and all..). I think even the tourists (non-Malaysians) felt they were shortchanged, from their face expressions. We felt like being in a dying place of attraction. I thought of visiting the other attractions at the place, but after the wet world experience............ Note: The views expressed here are solely by the author and is relative to what others might feel or think. Sole discretion is advised. Give this place a miss, expensive, food is bad, place has gone to the dogs, unkept, dirty, 3/4 rides are closed, the pool needs major refit.
Voodooman Supersonic July 1, 2008 Share July 1, 2008 I don't know. I have always stayed with Laguna as it has a house reef and is supposedly more happening at night. Berjaya is more for couples, quiet and away from the crowd.
Tohto Hypersonic September 5, 2008 Share September 5, 2008 Hi Bros here, Restart this old thread. Planning for a trip to Kuantan in mid Nov (1st wk of school holiday). Like to know has the monsoon season start? How is the Swiss Garden Resort? Is it run down as many hotel in MY. Any recommendation for good seafood resturant there? Sorry for so many question as this is my 1st trip to east coast.
Thestig Clutched September 5, 2008 Share September 5, 2008 Mid Nov is close to hard part of the moonsoon period. But with the way that weather is pretty unpredictable, it could be sunny and all at that time. Perhaps you can check the Malaysian Tide forecast: http://www.kjc.gov.my/english/weather/forecast/ship.html When I was there last May, the Swiss Garden Resort was pretty much ok, but I'm not too fussed. Seafood places are aplenty up and down Beserah beach. Nothing much to do in town though, so probably better to avoid. Hope this helps.
Voodooman Supersonic September 5, 2008 Share September 5, 2008 (edited) The period from Oct to Feb/Mar is monsoon season, it is usually very wet and the sea rough. I go to http://www.met.gov.my/htdocs2/data/T042E.html to get a feel for the weather. I have visited Redang/Kuantan during Sep-Oct period with super "wet" weather forecast but it turned out bright and sunny, so take it with a pitch of salt. Nevertheless, east coast is very prone to flooding during the moonsoon, so if it is raining cats and dogs, I suggest you avoid the coastal roads. I have not stayed at Swiss Garden, wanted to try but never got to it. So far, it is always Hyatt, the Regency rooms are excellent but a little ex. The normal rooms at RM400 are reasonable, I think. The rooms are great but a little small. Seaview room is recommended. Been to Pak Su and Tong Juan, both are so-so, I find the stuffed crabs outside Awana Kijal better than those at Pak Su and Tong Juan. Try this in Kuantan, heard it is good www.alorakar-seafood.com/store.htm Do drive a little north to explore the area, the beaches are much better 1-2 hours north of Kuantan.
