yes, even if that is so. i do have a habit of upshifing and slam onto the oil pedel. the feeling is much better. this car is more of a class and brand. long distance WRX might not lose, but the st will be more stable. which is very important for high speed cos of it's safety.

sat in a friend's lancer. 125km/h the car start to virate already. and loud roar. feel unsafe.

in a conti car or korean avante i must say. 125km/h feel like 100.

Good on you for committing. That flat torque curve really lends itself well to tractability for daily driving. Torque makes a car feel fast because of that pressing-to-the-seat, neck-snapping-back feeling.

If I see you on the road I'd be sure to say hi. [thumbsup]

you are right, conti do have a more stable ride in the high speed run.

I have owned 2 Alfa Romeo in the early to late 90's and the Focus Mk1 in '03, all are stock setup and handle very well at 180km/h+- (for Focus), at 210km/h+- (for Alfa Romeo).

I also owned a ES8 Civic in '01, before the Focus, stock suspension setup sucks and it bounce like mad above 140km/h. Even after I install Eibach Pro-Kit + Koni yellow, the steering feedback, actually there isn't much feedback at around 180km/h. I feel more tired, mentally, then when I was driving the Alfa's and Focus smile.gifsmile.gifsmile.gif

Neutral Newbie

My take is that this thread has been originally started by a XYZ company employee wanting to sell a ABC car but times had been bad since a DEF owner was walloped left and right and all the commotion scared all the potential Tom, Dick and Harry.

In any case, this car can't even overtake a GTI or R26.

Don't waste your time bro ... following up this useless thread

i tested the ST before too. from what u described, i can understand why u got it as its fast and practical. ppl say the GTI is faster. but i think the 0-100 timings are nearly identical. 6.8s for ST and 6.9s for GTI DSG. But i think what may give the ST the edge in a drag race is the manual shifting. flooring throttle and inducing wheelspin. i doubt anyone would wana try that with the DSG.

Yes, the GTI pricing is steep. i didn't calculate but i wonder all that FC and road tax will make the ST more costly than the GTI. perhaps when u factor that in over 10 years, pricing will be quite similar. maintenance wise, ST easier to maintain cos its manual. DSG will fork out more to replace parts over the years.

before i forget, i thought GTI is advertised as 109k? and if ST is 100k, there isnt much difference.

back to ST, there was abit of torque steer when i tested it, typical of FWD. massive torque indeed. i do prefer the handling of a RWD though and the rx8 comes to mind. many think the rx8 is a drinker. its not that bad for the 6 speed manual, at about 9-10km/l. a friend of mine has it and that's the figure he's getting pumping 95ron. it's also quite practical but less than the ST. But rx8 is different altogether, needing to rev all the way to feel the power. but it should feel better balanced than the ST & i think its more costly anyway.

WRX? think it will beat ST on standstill but on rolling start, the ST may have a chance due to WRX turbo lag. i suppose the ST has less lag.

The ST is actually less than 95k now, not 100k.

and the GTi @109k is w/o sunroof, xenon, leather & electric seats

Exclusively in Tornado Red only.

I enquired in the Focus ST UK forum last year, comparing it with WRX. And all the owners were unanimous in agreement that the WRX is definitely faster any way you want to look at it. BUT they still bought and love the ST for other reasons.
