Simplyme Neutral Newbie November 15, 2007 Share November 15, 2007 BEIJING — Used condoms are being recycled into hair bands and hair ties in southern China, threatening to spread sexually-transmittable diseases they were originally meant to prevent, state media reported yesterday. In the latest example of potentially harmful Chinese-made products, rubber hair bands have been found in local markets and beauty salons in Dongguan and Guangzhou cities in southern Guangdong province, the China Daily newspaper said. "These cheap and colourful rubber bands and hair ties sell well ... threatening the health of local people," it said. Despite being recycled, the hair bands could still contain bacteria and viruses, it said. "People could be infected with Aids, (genital) warts or other diseases if they hold the rubber bands or strings in their mouths while weaving their hair into plaits or buns," the daily quoted a local dermatologist as saying. A bag of 10 of the recycled bands sells for just 25 fen (4 cents), much cheaper than others on the market, accounting for their popularity, the newspaper said. A government official was quoted as saying that recycling condoms was illegal. China's manufacturing industry has been tarnished this year by a string of scandals involving shoddy or dangerous goods made for domestic and foreign markets. It has launched a public relations blitz aimed at playing up efforts to strengthen monitoring systems. — AFP BEIJING — Used condoms are being recycled into hair bands and hair ties in southern China, threatening to spread sexually-transmittable diseases they were originally meant to prevent, state media reported yesterday. Karebu 1st Gear November 15, 2007 Share November 15, 2007 if they are recycled it should be alright, right? recycling would mean involving some sort of meltdown or what have you. unless by recycling they mean picking the condom off the streets and just wrapping it after tying a knot at the end. Dipstick Neutral Newbie November 15, 2007 Share November 15, 2007 (edited) Quote:" Wait they used the recycled condoms for manufacture of tyres." Unquote. That is not that bad........ wait till they use recycled condoms to make new condoms. That's when it gets really bad...... maybe they are already doing that! I would not be surprise if they wash and repack the used condoms to be sold again.......... Edited November 15, 2007 by Dipstick
Watwheels Supersonic November 15, 2007 Share November 15, 2007 (edited) Are they really using used condoms or expired condoms?? I think it can be quite misleading. Anyway who will go and handle used condoms? Or dig into rubbish bins to even look for one? Just to make it into a hairband. Worth the price meh? I doubt so lah. Dipstick Neutral Newbie November 15, 2007 Share November 15, 2007 They don't have to use their naked hands on the used condoms....... there are such things as gloves, tongs and other devices. To make $$$, I believe those people are willing to do anything, even selling their "miang chiang kway"...... ↡ Advertisement
