Latiosedan Clutched November 12, 2007 Share November 12, 2007 I just have my tyres swop at a tyre shop near AMK area. Within a week, when i inspect the wheels, I discovered that the 4 nuts on my front left wheel came loose. I can even unscrew them using bare hands. Luckily the wheel did not come off while driving, otherwise the car sure go out of control. I am wondering if the screw nuts will loosen over time? or is it a bad job done by the tyre shop? ↡ Advertisement

Spiderman302 2nd Gear November 12, 2007 Share November 12, 2007 It should not happen if tightened properly. Possible reasons : 1. Mechanic did not tightened properly. 2. Worn out threads, but happen on all 4 nuts ? quite strange 3. Sabo.
To_be_advised Neutral Newbie November 12, 2007 Share November 12, 2007 If the nuts come loose till the extent you mentioned, then you should be able to feel some vibrations on your steering wheel when you drive. Happened to me once and i stopped driving at once when i feel the steering wheel vibrations. KAO!!!! Probably a lousy job at the tyre shop i guess..... Kb27 Supersonic November 12, 2007 Share November 12, 2007 (edited) Most likely, the mechanic used hand tightened first, but forgot to really tightened it. It's easy to forget if you are rushing around. So try to avoid really busy shop. Edited November 12, 2007 by Kb27
Mzrmazda3 6th Gear November 13, 2007 Share November 13, 2007 Bro, either tio sabo or that tyre shop did not do a proper job for you Luckily, you realised it before anything tragic happens
Watwheels Supersonic November 13, 2007 Share November 13, 2007 Maybe the air compressor to power the pneumatic torque wrench gun did not build up enough pressure due to multiple usage. Ppl tend to rely on the air compressor and dun bother to maintain it. They should use a wrench to hand tighten after using their pneumatic tools to make sure the nuts are secured. Yeobh 4th Gear November 18, 2007 Share November 18, 2007 (edited) If you are using compressed air impact wrench day in day out for almost the same kind of job, you should be able to notice the different in the wrench tightening noise and air discharge. On top of that , all electric motor powered air compressors are designed to auto kick in once the tank pressure reaches the min pre set pressure. The biggest headache is not pressure but air volume due to accumulatoin of condensed moisture in the tank. I used to adv customers to install auto drain unit at the base of the tank. Silverado1 Neutral Newbie November 18, 2007 Share November 18, 2007 Did you return to the shop to complain? Sometimes, the mgt don't know what's happening! You should highlite this to them! It's very serious! Do it before something serious happens!
Watwheels Supersonic November 19, 2007 Share November 19, 2007 Accumulation of moisture will result in water "leaking" from their tools. Believe me I know. Usually they have a dryer installed to auto remove and drain most of it. The rubber hose might have cracks somewhere and started leaking for all we know.
