Vega Turbocharged November 11, 2007 Share November 11, 2007 one thing to take note. To have better braking, the entire braking sys works as a whole. even with the best brake pad, if the roto can't take the heat, it will not perform to what the brake pad can potentially achieve. Therefore, u need to consider not only the pad and roto. Brake hose, caliper, brake fluid, etc all play a part. and not forgetting a good set of tyres. ↡ Advertisement

Icekitten Clutched November 12, 2007 Share November 12, 2007 Better bite and shorter braking distance...personally I think it might be true but the difference might not be very significant from stock pads, coz like one bro said, I also believe that better braking power lies in the system as a whole rather than just the pads alone. Changing pads alone, I guess the benefits might be more significant at higher speed aggressive braking than normal street driving? You changed pads because they were finished, or spoilt like mine - giving off screeching sounds while braking? Mine 1st time changed at 10+k, think few more k to 20k. Second time was just several k later. Both times pad left a lot, more than half. Still can brake though feel that bite not as good. Not sure if psychological haha. Sometimes these things dunno how to prove if it's just psychological or not. And giving off sound, so thought better to change rather than risk damaging rotors. Yuan 6th Gear November 12, 2007 Author Share November 12, 2007 (edited) I changed them when I finished...Now on second set.... Haha! That is why I am considering aftermarket brake pads since stock ones also have the risk of having the rotor warped. By the way, you know of any aftermarket brands that has front brake pads and rear brake shoes for lancer? Project mu has front brake pads for lancer but they dun have rear brake shoes for the rear. That was what Stamford Tyres told me. I thought change might as well change both front and back.... Icekitten Clutched November 12, 2007 Share November 12, 2007 At least you changed your brake pads when they were finished! That means stock brake pads are still able to accomodate your driving style within its 'recommended usage'. Mine didn't even have a chance to finish then up the lorry liao. Wa piang felt like so wasted, both times had to throw away the brake pads which had left more than half still. I think rear brake shoes don't finish so fast right? I don't even think I've heard it mentioned before in SLC. Think before the brake shoes got a chance to finish, by then already change car. *LOL*
Yuan 6th Gear November 13, 2007 Author Share November 13, 2007 Haha..."Recommended usage" I dunno how long this second set will last. I am monitoring it. Stock pads are supposed to be more long lasting. If I use aftermarket ones, then I will change even more often. Hehe! Maybe for you, think of it this way. Stock pads may not be suitable for your driving style. Yes....We see it a waste but if they do not suit you and in the end not effective braking, then it causes more danger to you. Might as well invest a bit more for a good aftermarket brake pads that suits your driving and have a peace of mind.
Yeobh 4th Gear November 13, 2007 Share November 13, 2007 You need to do thickness measurment and check surface run out - and check the readings with maker's spec. Over skimming will cause vibration as the rotor is too thin and heavy run out with cause uneven brake forces on the rotor surfaces - again these uneven forces will creat unbalance. Fabby27 Neutral Newbie March 7, 2008 Share March 7, 2008 Hi guys. i drive a 07Camry and it's about 1y6mths old. few days ago i did a major e-brake as some chick decided to cross the road when it's the red man.. recently my steering wheel vibrates when i brake at about 80-100kmh but little or no vibration below 60kmh. could my rotors be warped due to the ebrake? what other symptoms are there to see whether my rotors are warped? Mkl22 Supersonic March 7, 2008 Share March 7, 2008 rotors do not warp. its the uneven brake pad deposits on the rotor that give the pulsating feeling. depending on how bad the deposits are, you can sand it off the rotor or send it for refinishing, ie skim. and then also sand down the pads a little and viola done. have done it on my car. DIY and it works. The rotor is not warped. see this http://www.powerstop.com/content.wws?fname=technicalfaq.html
Fabby27 Neutral Newbie March 7, 2008 Share March 7, 2008 o really.. but from reading various threads it seems like i do really have warped rotors.. any idea how much would a pair of rotor cost if i buy them from Ric Tat? ↡ Advertisement
