Kelpie 2nd Gear October 31, 2007 Share October 31, 2007 How much is the toll fee from singapore to penang? Advisable to use touch'n go card? if yes, where to buy it? What you can do is to get to the 1st toll station from JB towards Melaka/KL. Pay the toll in RM intially and turn to the right hand side, where there is a small office building that sell TNG card and for top up. Poortraveller 1st Gear October 31, 2007 Share October 31, 2007 Errr... I dunno what & which boutique hotel you're referring to.... I stayed at the Copthorne last year Oct, and it wasn't that bad. For that price (RM$240 then), one cannot expect 5 star standard & service... but its alright..... not too shabby.... with that price ... think holiday inn will be a better choice ... stay there once and was
Elepoo 2nd Gear October 31, 2007 Share October 31, 2007 (edited) Gotham All Suite..... Stayed there twice..... Highly recommended...cheaper & better than those hotels along the BF strip... Edited October 31, 2007 by Elepoo
Elepoo 2nd Gear October 31, 2007 Share October 31, 2007 Anyone drove to Penang before? Is it safe to park at the shopping centres/malls there? Thanks Gurney Plaza, Queen Mall are pretty safe...generally Penang people are pretty well-to-do.....still seeing many Ang mohs (not tourists) around the Malls. As some bros mentioned, lifestyle there similar to Singapore...except they got better beaches than we do....expect jams during peak hours. For Penang Hill, pls go early (as early as 9am) or else you got to wait a few hour to take the tram...

Vtim 3rd Gear November 1, 2007 Share November 1, 2007 Its safe, no worries. Will be driving there for the 2nd time on the 20th Dec, staying 2 nites there. When coming back, can try the car ferry to Butterworth... maybe can join you next year
Miles 4th Gear November 1, 2007 Share November 1, 2007 The tram is about the same as HK Peak tram, but smaller. Cable system is the same. But tram ride to HK Peak is very short. Penang Hill's tram ride is at least 15-20mins. You need to change tram at mid-hill. If you have never been to Penang Hill, it's worth taking the tram. Quite an experience. If you're going during the dec holidays, the queue for the tram can be quite long. Go early in the morning before 10am. Enjoy yourself there. You'll find a lot of things to do in Penang. In fact i would say Penang is like a mini HK rather than a mini Singapore. The landscape, terrain, culture, food, etc. are more like HK in the 60-70s. Night life is also quite happening in Penang. Miles 4th Gear November 1, 2007 Share November 1, 2007 Good 4-5 star hotels in Penang.... depend on whether you want beach front hotels or city hotels. Beach front (near Batu Ferringgi/Tanjung Bunga) 1. Rasa Sayang Hotel 5star - i think about S$200+ 2. Casurina Hotel 4star - not sure about price 3. Park Royal Hotel (owned by UOL) 4 star - not sure about price 4. Bayview Beach 5 star - not sure about price 5. Holiday Inn 3/4 star - ?price City 1. City Bayview 4star - about S$150 2. Sheraton Tower - about S$150 ... next to Penang Plaza. very near Gurney Drive. 3. Northam All Suite Hotel - about S$200-250... but for big family, its worth it. 4. Shangri-La - about S$175 ... near Komtar, but a bit old. 5. Evergreen Laurel - not sure about price now... but location is fantastic. Right at the smack of Gurney Drive. Miles 4th Gear November 1, 2007 Share November 1, 2007 How much is the toll fee from singapore to penang? Advisable to use touch'n go card? if yes, where to buy it? No need Touch N Go card. Pay cash. About RM100 if you drive directly from Singapore (2nd Link) to Penang. If you break your journey in KL, then about RM60 to KL and another RM50+ from KL to Penang. Total travelling time (at 110kph consistently) SIN-PEN ... 8 hours. But i know some ppl did it in 6hours.

So slow at 110Km/h, can reach Penang in 8 hours ? 2. If you want to join long queue during peak hours at toll, go for cash. Once you have TNG, you will probably not go back to cash. I've seen Singaporean getting TAG system as well. With TNG, just flash the card and go, why use cash? Regards,
Kelpie 2nd Gear November 1, 2007 Share November 1, 2007 nearest will be hatyai, lots of malaysian tourist there Any attractions there beside temples? Thought of going there without spending a night. Alternatively, just touched and go at the border and back. Wife is not very keen in going to Thailand. She told me Hatyai was bombed several times by terrorist at tourist spots.
