the first time i had such sound, i thought the brake pads were worn out, i was right, so i went to change the pads, and skim the rotor.

however, after about 1k km, the grinding sound came back, what could it be?

can only hear it occasionally during braking

Jack up the car, turn the wheel manually, if you feel of hear grinding sound chance the pad caliper is not properly retracted. Try bleeding the brake system to remove air bubble at the wheel brake cylinder.

If the runing don't produce any grinding sound, the other possiblity is the rotor is not properly skim and and surface is not properly hone and washed to remove minute metal chip residue.

i went to do some firm braking about 10 times from 80km/h to 10km/h.. so far, the problem has not resurfaced for a week.. i guess the surface was not hone/washed properly?

no lah....new pad and newly machined disc need time to match the surface profile..if i am not wrong it will go away after a while
