Ewicong Neutral Newbie October 30, 2007 Author Share October 30, 2007 90km/h abit slow.... with nwaday car condition n safety features, 110km/h also consider slow..... they really need to revise the speed limit.....
Accord Clutched October 30, 2007 Share October 30, 2007 True but think the problem lies with weather & drivers itself lor...Raining oli all cars slow dwn till like 50-60km/h on xpressway, once got car breakdown or accident but already move to shoulder & yet some even go to extend to really slow down & see.... Lawman123 Neutral Newbie October 30, 2007 Share October 30, 2007 how does increasing speed limit solve the traffic jam issue? Faster speed means more accident and more jams isn't it?
Apollo 1st Gear October 30, 2007 Share October 30, 2007 i believe is reducing the nos of entry points but maintaining the same nos of exit point during certain hours. so traffic is diverted to using other road. alternatively, charge only cars based on car plate. even and odd nos. since a year got 12months, this can rotate accordingly for the 6 days. cars on even plate gets to drive for free on certain days, and those on odd plate have to pay for the privilege. vice versa. Wanderer Clutched October 30, 2007 Share October 30, 2007 If increase speed limit, some or most drivers will still drive faster. So it doesn't solve anything. The only effective way is to restrict the number of cars. But this will mean less taxes for the gahment, which they wldn't want to as this will cost a loss of revenue for them. So in a so-called win-win situation for us and them (mostly for them), we got cheaper cars, but need to pay more for petrol, ERP, parking etc So in short, it's LPPL
Auron 2nd Gear October 30, 2007 Share October 30, 2007 rubbish theory just to increase expressway speed. it is a know fact that the expressway are jammed because there are simply too many entry and exit point in the expressway couple with more cars on the road. Ewicong Neutral Newbie October 30, 2007 Author Share October 30, 2007 friend, tat is one of the solution proven by traffic expert... do u knw mathematic? 90km/h hw many car can go thru, 110km/h hw many car can go thru.... of cos i agreed too many entry/exit caused the problem.... bt can they close it??? respect ppl will gain ppl respect. n vice versa!! Paris and China now practicing that. Quite an interesting concept but I dun think the local can take it. Maybe ERP charge double for those who use it when they shouldn't. In fact, I was in Paris when they went on strike. No trains to Paris.... Stuck outside the LV store for 1hr before finally get into a cab. Imagine paying 100 Euro from Vesinet to Airport... you can clearly see that the ppl there do take the public transport when they can, unlike us. To_be_advised Neutral Newbie October 30, 2007 Share October 30, 2007 (edited) Somehow, i agree with what you are saying. If you guys noticed, most of the expressway jasm are heavier at the places where there are lane filtering into and filtering out of the expressway. Usually those filtering out are normally hit by a traffic light not far in front therefore increasing speed limits on the expressway will not ease this jam situation at all. One way is to increase the green light frequency at this traffic lights but everything is a chain reaction so if here faster means somewhere else will jam. At the end of the day, Singapore is not going to get bigger on monthly basis but cars are increasing monthly even with the COE in place. Oh ya, talking about the expressway. can someone shed some light on why filter out lanes on an expressway are always build a short distance after filter in lanes. In my opinion, this is a lousy set-up/design and is another factor in expressway jams and accidents. People are trying to filter out will slow down people trying to filter in and vice versa. Furthermore, this increase the dangerous lane changing frequency for cars filtering out due to unable to lane change cos of the cars filtering in and vice versa. Logic is to let cars get out first before other cars get in ma. Why they design in such a way car get in first before car get out? Furthermore why both filter in and filter out of expressway always so near to each other? This setup / design has been pondering in my mind for quite some time..... Rickster 5th Gear October 30, 2007 Share October 30, 2007 This is fully agree. Many times I see goods & heavy vehicles hogging the middle lane travelling at only 60-70km/hr. They effectively only leave lane 1 open to faster traffic, thus causing multiple bottlenecks along the expressways. ↡ Advertisement
