Thanks for sharing. Really alot to learn, Ok will look out for suitable Lexus model too.

The problem is ... there ain’t many COE Lexus for sale.

In fact, zilch in sgcarmart!

So reliable it may be, but perhaps people do not see any intrinsic value in extending a Lexus’ COE, given its higher PARF (vs the average Jap BnB car).

Actually have lah just searched. Got plenty of IS250.

But after viewing like no feel. Still think either Merc or not going this route.

Except W140 with it's iconic design and double glaze windows, the rest not worth renewing. Majority of W221 (2007 to 2013) have gone into scrapyard, hardly see them on the road now.

The s class for renewal seems very nice. Tempted but do not have the time energy n money if anything thing big happens.

Only one major fault with the is250. Cracked dash and melted interiors.

Why the w221 is not worth renewing? Problematic? Edited by nazerath

My then-IS200 also had sticky “melted” dashboard plastics!

Quite unexpected for a Toyota car leh

Hi,

You may consider Lexus GS300.

Just took a second look at used Lexus. Indeed GS300 is worth considering except for the fact that its engine cap is 3L meaning I have to pay roadtax of 3.5k after 5 years.

I think I better stick to cars of < =2L.

Though I must say the GS300s still look very good from pictures even after 10 years, and century sprint of 7.2s is really something.

In fact for Lexus the lowest end car is IS250 which carry engine cap of 2.5L. Think I will bypass Lexus altogether.

How about buying a 2009/10 unit and drive for a year to see the condition? If the car is worth renewing, then renew it at ur ownership. Rather then buying a renewed unit from dealer.

Lexus is not as mainstream as mercedes, while it is a good car, it will be more difficult to find spare parts locally after some years compare to mercedes which will have spare parts readily available. I am speaking in relative term, not saying there would be no parts. Edited by Ct3833

Yah also considering that. Though looking at the pricing of 10 years COE C180/C200s, the difference between both approach is not that significant.

Now is waiting for feedback from existing owners before going ahead, but mcf here does not seem to have much C180/C200 owners from replies received so far. Either not many or they are laughing at this goon why he want to consider this "lemon" car haha. Will abandon the idea if not able to get more feedback as do not want a life-changing experience later on haha. Little inconveniences once in a while I can accept, but not disruptive type.

Merc is not engineered to drive for 10 years.Be it what models.

Go with your heart.

Your this advice contradicted with your previous posting leh.

Yesterday you commented you wld prefer used Merc like they can last, but now you saying they cannot last more than 10 years?

And is it really true that Merc not engineered for more than 10 years? Thought overseas the Merc live on and on as they do not scrape their cars so early?

The sticky plastic of the w211 is confined to the small plastic around the center armrest plus the light switch. Whoever has problem let me know and i will tell you how to fix it easily. The same happen to w212 as well but the material of the light switch of w212 has been changed so no longer have sticky problem. I dont see other sticky problems with these two models.

I am also toying the same idea as you. However I am not in a hurry as I renewed my Honda last year.

First time holding on to a car beyond 10 yr. So it is going to be an experience for me in maintaining a COE car.

Like you, I hope to see more C180/200 owners giving feedback about their experience.

This is certainly not true. Just look at the amount round headlight w211 on the road, many of them are renewed COE type. I nearly renewed mine in end 2016 but the parf plus body worth more than 33k, i decided to sell it off. Otherwise the condition of the engine and every thing was very good.

My current ride is a 8 year old CGI, i dont believe it cannot last for 10 more year with the current condition.

Is there a missing word in your post?

Are you trying to say "Merc is not engineered to drive for ONLY 10 years."
