I can attest to that because i own a COE Altis.

Absolutely ,the Japanese Brand Toyota ,Honda & even the Korean Hyundai are all pretty much Bullet proof but even dat Toyota lately have Piston Ring sealing problem(s)it Consumed oil.

What I noe is ,if u owns a Conti ,U gotta need a different mindset/mentality

So it’s Different strokes for Different folks then.

Remembered ,Not all cars are Created Equal.

Agree, it is why despite the bulletproof Altis,   i still stick to my old w212 as well, you saw the condition. 🤣

Yes, thank you bro - having done the due diligence I decided to pull out from the purchase due to the projected and hidden costs in upkeeping the old Benz 🙂. Everyone on this thread has been super helpful!

Out of curiosity ,why u Look in the Direction of the S class,ah?

At the Begining of the year ,I way Toying with dat too.

My Reason was pretty straight forward ,I wanted a 6.

Owns all kind of 4 cylinders ,from NA ,SC ,TC & even a Diesel.

On one of those Sleepy mid week afternoon.

I was Pondering an S class(any version) an E230(w211) & perhaps E400 but Seriously not many 6 around.

New is out of the Question.

Nvr realli fancy S ,the Parking will be too Cumbersome for me .

Then Sumthing Drops on my Lap.

A Spanish guy was posted back home & Needs to Leave at the end of the month.

An unbelievable offer ……….

Can Guess what 6 Cylinder ,I Bought.

coffee on me?

clue ,Not the above mentioned.

Bingo

U got it ,it’s a 171

Before it Drop on me ,I was Looking at  one in Tampines  & u can’t help but noticed dis one is 20k Cheaper than alls dat was on offer in SG Carmart

Sceptism straight comes to mind,Problems ,the Owner can’t/dun wans to solve & it was advertise for so so Long(6 months).

Dis type of car ,No Dealer will dare to take so it’s all Consignment onli.

Either way,still goes down to have a Look/See .

Pretty Decent but still needs a P.P.I of course.

Found out from my Cabriolet club ,it’s Ex Owner was there & Chat him up.

He O/H the 7G prior to selling but alls good.
But there’s a catch even before Inspection & the price Being finalised..

Road Tax gonna Die in a couple of weeks time ,it’s a Big engine & ,gonna be Hefty .

So I Reply ,Renew the R.T then we talk again .

In a nutshell,it’s 15 yrs old ,quite a Long runway for COE to come to its senses.

So,me reckon ,can Try.

well,it’s getting a Big Long & I haven’t started on the one dat I acquired.

i Will onli continue ,when U guys get yr own popcorn & Beer ,willing  hang around or else………

*Carbon82,I will PM u for a Drink & makan if u are keen on Jalan Benaan Kapal (JBK)a quiet unassuming place ,brings up the charm of old S’pore

CT3833 & me ,used to have a Cuppa there.

In case u are wondering ,it’s named Shipyard cos of its historic past.

G’day

Agree,  best bet of your money for a used merc, but  they wont sell COE s class, or COE Mercs of  any model.

Hi, try consider this, buy a PARF car and drive for a year, if the car is good, go renew COE yourself, it might be safer  that way, and you wont be stuck with a bad COE car  in case the car condition is bad. You will need to do your sum carefully, just my thoughts

paid about 20 to 30k to 2 workshops in SG and 1 in JB for repairs and replacements after I bought a COE c180 w204. It's been ok so far but my mileage for full tank is around 350km. Unsure how others are clocking in excess of 500km per full tank. anyways im thinking of trading in for a BMW320i efficient dynamics. any thoughts?

Regret to hear the repair cost, 20k 30k repair cost is way too high even for a used COE car.  But it is over now, just move one,  you need to be more careful with your next purchase.

i used to own a w204 last time,  it is not fuel efficient at all.

I am unable to comment about BM, but basing on your C180 experience, you might want to consider buying one from performance premium selection, you will be more likely to avoid the same 20k 30k repair.
