Maxus-MIFA9 Supersonic October 25, 2007 Share October 25, 2007 Reported in ESPN Soccernet:- "Tottenham have confirmed the departure of Martin Jol as manager following the UEFA Cup defeat to Getafe. Spurs issued a statement revealing the board asked Jol and assistant Chris Hughton to stand down, contrary to earlier reports that the Dutchman had resigned. Chairman Daniel Levy said: 'Our greatest wish was to see results turn in our favour and for there to be no need for change.' Tottenham Hotspur have sacked their Dutch manager Martin Jol, the Premier League club said in a statement on Thursday. 'We can confirm that the board has this evening asked Martin Jol, the club manager, and Chris Hughton, the first team coach, to stand down from their positions with immediate effect,' the statement read. Bizarrely Jol, who took over from Jaques Santini in 2004, was in the dugout for Tottenham's 2-1 UEFA Cup defeat by Spanish club Getafe on Thursday as rumours circulated that his three-year reign was at an end. The 51-year-old has been tipped for the sack all season since highly fancied Tottenham lost their opening Premier League game against newly promoted Sunderland." Poor Jol , I remember in 2005, he gave a press statement that he is better than Rafa after leading Spurs to 5th position and indeed, he is one step better for being sack earlier than Rafa...... . If Rafa keep his rotation policy, he be next in line............. Who knows, he could be heading to Bolton Wanderer as currently, the club have no manager. ↡ Advertisement
Yuan 6th Gear October 26, 2007 Share October 26, 2007 Thought there is always a tradition with Spurs. They have good players and in fact a stream of England players since the days of Glen Hoddle, Darren Anderton etc. But they play below par all the time. Always seem to be gearing towards winning something but never won anything in the end.....

Kingcopa 1st Gear October 26, 2007 Share October 26, 2007 What difference? only in word mutual consent is a better word to use than sack left a staircase for the manager to leave gracefully. I dun believe in all those craps like mutual consent.

Acemundo Supercharged October 26, 2007 Share October 26, 2007 he is another victim of those trying to play beautiful football without the means to. in modern football, unless you are that tactically sophisticated (maybe to the level of wenger or AF), it is always safer to emphasize on defence first. Everton is a good proof of this theory and ironically, it is perhaps Everton that started the run of low confidence (and consequent Jol sacking) in the Spurs team by condemning spurs to their 2nd consecutive and first home defeat. Ecaf Neutral Newbie October 26, 2007 Share October 26, 2007 Clive Allen will be taking over for the time being. he's very successful with our reserves team, but of course, this is the BPL we're talking about. so i hope they have jol's replacement already on hand. *sigh* come on you spurs.. ↡ Advertisement
