I recently bought a new notebook with Vista, then I go Sim Lim and buy XP, wipe out Vista and install XP on the notebook. THAT is what I think of Vista! [rifle]

That extra amount I paid for XP is worth every cent compared to all the frustrations I get from Vista.

whenever a new version of a product is launched, there will always be people who would first try it, then complain about it and finally switch back to the version they previously used. this is exactly like the "withdrawal syndrome" that people trying to quit smoking go through. eventually when they have no choice but to change, they will start liking the new version. very common.

happened in SAF too when they changed to SAR21. same thing when HDB season parking label changed to RFID tag. just human behaviour la. people just want something they are familar with. not willing to change themselves but want to change the environment to suit themselves.

Vista got 2 flavours.. the 32 bit and the 64 bit.

If use 32 bit.. highly likely most of ur old programmes can be re-used as winxp is also 32 bit

BUT if use 64 bit.. need to scour the net for 64 bit versions of ur drivers and also programmes such as nero burner etc etc... this is very marfan but once done, quite stable.

The onli disadv of using 32 bit vista over 64 bit vista is that the max RAM is 2gb only in 32 bit vista

leading to slowing down esp if alot of multitasking done

and also that the future is in 64 bit so may need to upgrade again in the future.

Just my 2 cents.. pls correct me if i am wrong

Question: if want to use 64-bit version, does the CPU and all the various system paramaters (like FSB, RAM, etc) need to be 64-bit as well?

get XP

read somewhere

close to 10,000 users request to downgrade from pre load vista when they bought branded pc/laptop back to xp

because of compatible issues

such like

modem cannot recognise

printer cannot recognise

game cannot play

etc etc

Wah!! 10,000 users? ... [sweatdrop][sweatdrop]

u need at least 2gb ram

to run it smoothly

xp gobble 256mb of ram

vista gobble 512mb of ram

if your pc/laptop is 1 gb of ram

half gone to vista

while the rest will be shared among

anti-virus,anti spyware,firewall,msn, etc,etc

2GB??!! ... [sweatdrop][sweatdrop]

Vista need higher ram to run for sure. Recommended 1.5GB or more.

But, if it crashes somehow, it will auto repair (good for IT newbies).

Usage in office is better than XP. Better chinese interface, searching for application easier than clicking run.

Not a must to have, but good to have. As for driver compatibility, can D/L in the website.

Conclusion:

Office use thumbsup.gif

Home use thumbsdown.gif

So what significant advantage does Vista have over XP?

I'm wif Vista now n it definately need more ram. Initially only had 512mb installed, it was super slowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!!! Then bought 1GB n installed, total 1.5GB now. Smooth sailing now.

It does not recognise older software.

Even the IE 7.0 got no Java, got to d/l n install it. W/o Java I cannot do internet banking at all. Damn fustrated then, after some trial n error than came to know tis problem. [:|]

hey mate, time to make the switch [nod]

wife with ms. she uses vista and office2007. she stands up to it.

me, at home on xp and linux. imagine our clashes on OS when the topic comes up for discussion.

all in all, it's pointless to use Vista, unless you have core duo etc.. for my P4-478s, i'd stick to XP.

havin said that, i had a good on my wife's laptop vista, not too bad. just not enough to entice me.

and yeah, i'm gonna set up a 3.2G (still 478) w 2G ram, and still use XP.

If i am not wrong, 64bit refers to the software encoding. The hardware usually no problem but must be powerful enough to take advantage.

The onli great thing about 64bit is that they can have a max of 4gb ram leading to more RAM for the system to play with.

But u need to find the 64bit drivers for the mother board, video card etc etc... thats the marfan part i guess for all those who change over to vista.

I am still holding on to my old laptop because newer laptop comes with Vista by default. IT sounds silly to request to downgrade to Win XP.

I am still waiting for Vista to stablize while hoping my old and trusty IBM lappy serves me another 2 years.

The usual complain is lack of drivers.

Some of your expensive hardware may not work without the drivers.wink.gif

Vista is just some marketing gimmick to keep Microsoft shareholder happy....and of coz more bells and whistles to tax the latest hardware, so you have to keep upgrading and upgrading.

Even Windows 2000 is good enough, there is nothing much more to improve, but we are forced to ...

My office latest server still comes with Windows 2003 R2 server, guess why no XP, no Vista...

Neutral Newbie

Just got a new notebook. Came with Vista...

Thought of downgrading but decided to play around the Vista for a while first. Now I gave up the idea of downgrading.

Trying it out and owning it is a different experience. You will come to appreciate the thought that got into the Vista.

Why worry about compatibility issues? Every problem can be solved. I manage to get a software written for Win95 to work on the Vista. My first try few months back failed on a test PC. Now that its my own, I manage to make it work...hahah... [:p]

Hey Boss, a SGD$0.02 from me, a computer idiot.sweatdrop.gif

Currently using Vista on my lappy and XP on my desktop and coy computer. I don't have any issue with stability with Vista for the past 6 months. But really needs 2 GB ram if want to run smoothly with all the additional things like antivirus, games, etc.

I try to install other software like firefox but the program uninstall itself. dizzy.gif Install a wireless mouse software also have compability issue. shakehead.gif But luckily, now all these are resolved. So i guess have to wait for other softwares to have their version "gam" with Vista. Now i think most software okay now.

My friend install his Vista with firefox and the whole system crashed!! But i am not sure what fault coz never get back to him. Maybe not the vista fault. Should be harddisk

Vista come with IE2007 and I bought the Office 2007 together with the desktop for a 'special discounted' price. But I find the Office 2007 very un-user-friendly. Should have got Office 2003 instead. Not used to all the 'files', 'edit' button missing.
