Acemundo Supercharged January 28, 2008 Share January 28, 2008 HI guys, I am seeking 1 advice for email configuration after getting a new laptop running on Vista. My previous PC running on Outlook 2002 and I have backed up the .pst file for it. After getting my new laptop, I notice Vista comes with Windows mail. So I wanted to import my .pst file into Windows mail. But I didn't manage to do so and the message is something about issue with "MAPI client". So I thought I will load my Outlook 2002 into the laptop and use the outlook 2002 for email instead. Unfortunately, not sure if it is due to the Vista not supporting the Outlook 2002, after installation the software does not run properly and system does not allow me to even access the software offline. It instead directs me to update my Office and Windows. After updating it still doesn't run but I was invited to purchase Outlook 2007 instead. ↡ Advertisement

Silhoutte Clutched January 28, 2008 Share January 28, 2008 I think its usable la... Nothing exceptionally fantastic about it.
Guyver 1st Gear January 28, 2008 Author Share January 28, 2008 I'm not sure what is Windows Mail ... but I don't think it can import .pst file. To ensure that you get all your emails back .... you'll have to use Outlook. You should get quite a new version of Outlook with the PDA Phone which you have gotten. Guyver 1st Gear June 16, 2008 Author Share June 16, 2008 Quote Yeah u can say that too haha. As for the better OS, I'm very much compelled to say that OSX is far better than Windows even in comparison of the older versions of the OSX to Win XP. Can't say much abt Vista, I had a chance to demo my colleague's Vista in his notebook but I personally felt that it was not as impressive as it was said to be. OSX is simply much more stable. Btw I own PC and Mac so I'm able to make comparison. I think even Linux is a viable choice compared to Windows given that Linux is very much advanced now. Cheers. I just bought another Windows notebook .... I'll be stuck to Windows OS for awhile more. What is the cheapest with reasonable configuration Mac notebook out there now? Guyver 1st Gear June 16, 2008 Author Share June 16, 2008 Quote replying to this old post cos i just bought the Acer TM 6292 that comes with Vista Business. loved the GUI, very mac like... and computer doesn't run slow at all. i have 1 gb ram. planning to buy another 1 gb to boost the performance. agree that i needed some getting use to the OS, but think it's just a matter of time before i get the hang of it. Vista has some pretty nice features and some i think i have yet to discover. one feather i like is the sidebar... can intall mini programs called gadgets which will sit at the side of ur desktop. the mini progs can go download for the internet, some i like is the weather bug which gives live weather updates. CPU meter which monitors the performance of ur CPU and RAM usuage. and other nice gadgets. for those who chose to "upgrade" ur Vista OS to XP, i understand ur apprehension dealing w something new, but really the vista is not bad at all... well i am still in the discovery stage still so... So have you gotten used to Vista yet? I've tried Vista for awhile ... running with 3GB ram .... but still find it abit slow leh ...
Tunge 1st Gear June 16, 2008 Share June 16, 2008 eh... i upgraded to 4g RAM, n would say there's a diff from 2G.... don't use my VISTA as often as my Win XP on PC, but i think i'm ok with VISTA, once in a while will run into some problems due to changes from the XP OS, but no big issues. pretty stable OS for me... MS office needed getting used to, but really like the improvments. conclusion, between VISTA and XP, if i'd needed to pay extra to upgrade XP to VISTA i don't see a need to, but i don't mind using s system w VISTA

Silhoutte Clutched June 16, 2008 Share June 16, 2008 You could probably check out Sim Lim Square for that, if I'm not wrong, the folks over there are somehow able to give a better deal than what is listed on the apple webby. Congrats on your new laptop, enjoy using till you feel that its time to switch to a Macbook. A Macbook is always much more expensive than their windows counterparts and that may just be the reason why most people are still using the windows laptops. If Macbooks are priced to kill the competition, I believe many would make the switch. Cheers. ↡ Advertisement
