I've used OSX for awhile .... what I like is literally "lag free" .... just need to get used to it.

With nowadays ... having more application being web based .... apparently ... the restriction of the OS becomes less critical ....

Except for games ... can we play CounterStrike on Mac?

I'd say that the Mac is very good for graphics/video/word processing/music etc.

As for certain games a requirement for a porting will be needed, since counterstrike was made for windows originally when mac was less popular.

Dunno whether counterstrike had a mac version.

As for newer games, I'm sure that theres a mac version.

Cheers.

Strictly speaking? Yes you can download the kernel source and configure to run it on x86 Wintel boxes. But the GUI is never released out to public, and that's Mac's selling point is, right? [sly]

Yah ....

Saw the MacBook going under $2K ... with 13"/14" screen .... pretty tempting .... as long as I don't play game.

Ok ... All systems up!!

The error has been rectified ..... it is a wrong driver that was being loaded under Realtek .... so by just removing the installation .... the error is removed.

Now .... almost everything is up ... except the Touchpad ....

Previously .... can slide "up & down" on the right side of the Touchpad ... and the screen will scroll up and down ....

If slide "left & right" on the bottom of the Touchpad ..... the screen will scroll up and down ....

But now ... the Touchpad lost that function.

Nowsaday HDD so cheap... allocate 50G for OS, maybe can run faster and more stable.

Eh, let me know if the laptop by starhub is good a not. What brand is it btw?

I tot of getting a Fujitsu myself but warned by my colleague that Fujitsu the dvd drive is using masus-h-i-t-a (maybe wrong spelling, but think u should have heard of it b4) and it is 'region coded' and cannot read pirated and some burn-ed dvd....

He spit saliva on the ground liao laugh.gif

The notebook from Starhub is not bad .... design wise ... quite nice also.

Only thing is that the screen's resolution is not that sharp.

But before you put in the XP CD to reinstall ... please take note that you'll need to create a CD with SATA drivers inside to install XP with SATA.

OK..I mange to get the audio and modem card to work.

Firstly I did a Windows Update to Windows XP SP2

Then I downloaded the Microsoft Universal Audio Architecture Bus Driver for High Definition Audio from the link below and install it

ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp32501-33000/sp32646.exe

Next I follow the instruction from this forum below

http://forums12.itrc.hp.com/service/...readId=1173544

For Audio and Modem, download the following driver packs (install will fail, read below):

Conexant HDA Soft Modem with SmartCP

DriverVer=02/14/2007, 7.62.00.52

http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp36001-36500/sp36089.exe (11MB)

Conexant High Definition Audio Device

DriverVer = 02/14/2007, 3.34.0.50

http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp36001-36500/sp36090.exe (4.1MB)

After running the two Conexant packages above, the driver files will be extracted to C:SWSetupSPxxxxx. The automatic install program will fail but that is expected. Go to Control Panel > Device Manager. Single right-click on the 'unknown' audio device and select "Update Driver". From the Hardware Update wizard:

Select 'no, not this time' when asked to connect to the internet, click next.

Select 'install from a specific location' (advanced), click next.

Select 'Don't search, I will choose the driver to install', click next.

In the list of common hardware types, scroll down and select Sound, Video, and Game controllers, click next.

In the resulting dialogue box, click Have Disk.

Browse to the folder where SP36090 was extracted (e.g. C:SWSetupSP36090) and select CpV30D5a.inf, click OK

In the next dialogue, select Conexant High Definition Audio-Venice 5045. If you receive a warning that Windows cannot verify compatibility with this drive, select 'Proceed' or 'Ignore' (or whatever option that allows you to continue installing the driver).

When the driver is finished installing, restart your PC. Do the same thing for the modem, except the extraction folder will be C:SWSetupSP36089 and the INF is SprtHD5m.inf.

Yes the key point of buying a mac has always been due to its OS.

The OS is the selling point of mac.

Cheers.

Any good feedback on Vista so far?

replying to this old post cos i just bought the Acer TM 6292 that comes with Vista Business.

loved the GUI, very mac like... and computer doesn't run slow at all. i have 1 gb ram. planning to buy another 1 gb to boost the performance.

agree that i needed some getting use to the OS, but think it's just a matter of time before i get the hang of it. Vista has some pretty nice features and some i think i have yet to discover. one feather i like is the sidebar... can intall mini programs called gadgets which will sit at the side of ur desktop. the mini progs can go download for the internet, some i like is the weather bug which gives live weather updates. CPU meter which monitors the performance of ur CPU and RAM usuage. and other nice gadgets.

for those who chose to "upgrade" ur Vista OS to XP, i understand ur apprehension dealing w something new, but really the vista is not bad at all... well i am still in the discovery stage still so... wink.gif
