Watwheels Supersonic October 22, 2007 Share October 22, 2007 I saw reviews online on Vista saying it has no significant improvements compared to XP. There are compatibility issues also. A few months back I had to get another new PC for my office and was wondering which one to get. I stick to XP as it's more stable.

Nutty 4th Gear October 22, 2007 Share October 22, 2007 I have tried Vista before. They have revved up the graphical interface and made it more memory intensive. I do not need these bells and whistle at the expense of performance, so I am still sticking to XP. Also, the change of GUI in Vista needs some getting use to. Aimnfire 4th Gear October 22, 2007 Share October 22, 2007 u need at least 2gb ram to run it smoothly xp gobble 256mb of ram vista gobble 512mb of ram if your pc/laptop is 1 gb of ram half gone to vista while the rest will be shared among anti-virus,anti spyware, firewall, msn, etc,etc
Turbine Neutral Newbie October 22, 2007 Share October 22, 2007 (edited) Vista need higher ram to run for sure. Recommended 1.5GB or more. But, if it crashes somehow, it will auto repair (good for IT newbies). Usage in office is better than XP. Better chinese interface, searching for application easier than clicking run. Not a must to have, but good to have. As for driver compatibility, can D/L in the website. Conclusion: Office use Home use Edited October 22, 2007 by Turbine

Uplinkhack 1st Gear October 22, 2007 Share October 22, 2007 i using Vista now. Tried a chinese game made in 2000 i think (Tian long ba bu) and it still works. using office 2003 instead of 2007, same same. the only problem i faced is my printer driver. using HP laserjet. cannot use manual duplex at all. searched online and other models also having this problem. i'm still waiting for HP's technical support to reply me on this matter.. other than that, alright for me~~ looks nicer and the search within ur pc is super fast.. Adrianli Hypersonic October 22, 2007 Share October 22, 2007 I'm wif Vista now n it definately need more ram. Initially only had 512mb installed, it was super slowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!!! Then bought 1GB n installed, total 1.5GB now. Smooth sailing now. It does not recognise older software. Even the IE 7.0 got no Java, got to d/l n install it. W/o Java I cannot do internet banking at all. Damn fustrated then, after some trial n error than came to know tis problem.
Sotong_kia Neutral Newbie October 22, 2007 Share October 22, 2007 Been on Vista for close to 3 months now. Initially, pissed off like hell.. But after a while, getting used to the interface, I like it much better than XP... Handling of photos, videos, etc.. As for resource intensive, can just turn off those fanciful interface.. moving wallpaper, etc.. will get it running faster.. What I like is that many things I want, I can't get with XP itself.. need to download those freeware, etc.. Vista gave me most of the things I need liao.. And also, it is really more stable than XP, when you run applications, try out new software, it crash, uninstall it, etc.. no need to reboot so many times like XP.. Ruzmidah 2nd Gear October 22, 2007 Share October 22, 2007 Vista got 2 flavours.. the 32 bit and the 64 bit. If use 32 bit.. highly likely most of ur old programmes can be re-used as winxp is also 32 bit BUT if use 64 bit.. need to scour the net for 64 bit versions of ur drivers and also programmes such as nero burner etc etc... this is very marfan but once done, quite stable. The onli disadv of using 32 bit vista over 64 bit vista is that the max RAM is 2gb only in 32 bit vista leading to slowing down esp if alot of multitasking done and also that the future is in 64 bit so may need to upgrade again in the future. Just my 2 cents.. pls correct me if i am wrong
