Supercharged Neutral Newbie October 18, 2007 Author Share October 18, 2007 Chernobly happen because of unsafe practices. On the contrary, 3-mile island wasn't even a disaster. All e safety features wrked, and nobody died. 3-mile island was spiced up to make the newspapers sell
Kingcopa 1st Gear October 18, 2007 Share October 18, 2007 Boy Boy, we cannot even improve Safety at our construction site, shipyard and other industry, what make u think Safety wont be compromise in a nuclear plant
Rickster 5th Gear October 18, 2007 Share October 18, 2007 There is a study before. think if they built a small one at one of the offshore island. it is enough to power up the whole of SG and safe from any fall out. Agreed. There is already a prototype of a mini floating nuclear power plant. The Russians already have that technology. Check out this link. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Floating_nuclear_power_plant
Carphant Neutral Newbie October 18, 2007 Share October 18, 2007 ya right.... dun think Singapore can built one. too dangerous liao lah..a small accident can wipe out the whole island leh..
Stary Supercharged October 18, 2007 Share October 18, 2007 actually there are about 400 over nuclear plants in the world, how often do you hear them having leak or something? Furthermore most of these nuclear plants are in countries which are even more un-regulated than Spore. uranium prices had went up 7 folds in 2 years...those who have invested in it would have been laughing all the way to the bank. With $100 oil price coming up and global warming issues, it will be a matter of time when a nuclear plant is absolutely neccessary.
Maxus-MIFA9 Supersonic October 18, 2007 Share October 18, 2007 If a sub can be nuclear powered and the crew can operated and sleepalongside it. I believe with proper measure. SG can also build and maintance a nuclear power plant. So....... just buy the sub from US and parked it at our Changi Naval Base (24hrs guards). Connect a cable to it and ta....ta..... cheap power supply. Ahhhhh........ better still, buy a nuclear Aircraft Carrier, double function as power supply and airbase on land scarce Singapore. Maxus-MIFA9 Supersonic October 18, 2007 Share October 18, 2007 "You haven't thought about the repercussions of having nuclear power?? 1) Accident = Singapore population is wiped out in event of explosion. Radioactive discharge means cancer/radiation sickness for everyone" No..no..no.. not wiped out but 4 million Hulks after the radiation. Then we can control the world and make the whole world into :- One People, One Nation, One Singapore.
Kyousuke Neutral Newbie October 18, 2007 Share October 18, 2007 Ya, agree nuclear fusion is less dangerous and produces more power. But presently, nobody have found a cheap and efficient way to produce nuclear fusion (presently, nuclear fusion needs nuclear fission). Currently scientist have managed to create a nuclear fusion reaction. This was not acheive via nuclear fission. You are confused with how hydrogen bombs work. However the amount of energy required is much more than the amount created. Secondly, the reaction is not sustainable because there is no materials currently available that can withstand the pressure and temperature involved. In the experiments, a plasma containment barrier was used. But in order to generate this barrier again requires much more energy than created as well. ↡ Advertisement
