Boyboy 1st Gear October 16, 2007 Share October 16, 2007 http://www.mycarforum.com/forum/gforum.cgi...tector;#1844628 take a look.. of course the G3 has a biga$$ protector.. most of the others are more subtle. a portion above the bead juts out more than the rim. helps a bit if u bua the curb but it's by no means foolproof

Joe_Legal October 30, 2007 Share October 30, 2007 How to tell if tyre has rim protector visually ? The flat tyre sidewall is more protruding outwards than the circumference of your rim, in that the side wall don't just curve from the outer circumference of the tyre to the edge of your rim; the edge of your rims actually appears sunken into the tyres. At least IHMO on the visual part
DarkLord 1st Gear October 30, 2007 Share October 30, 2007 The tyres will take the blunt of the sharp edges from kerbs and potholes. But that also means the tyres are prone to kena side slashes.
Fisher_man Neutral Newbie October 30, 2007 Share October 30, 2007 so in a nutshell, are rims protectors effective as they are ? or is it rather to cause damage to your rims, damage to your tyres will be "cheaper" to replace.
Joe_Legal October 30, 2007 Share October 30, 2007 (edited) Well, IMHO, they're effective to a certain extent. If your wheels are say almost parallel to the kerb, it'll help. There may be some rubbing on the tyres, but just kiwi and the mark will go away. Not the case if the scratches are on your wheel. Of course, rim protectors cannot compare to the protection offered by higher sidewalls, or careful / patience when parking. End of the day, for me rim protectors isn't a main consideration when choosing tyres, rather it's something secondary to tip the scale after considering specs like dry grip, wet grip, handling, comfort, treadwear and price Edited October 30, 2007 by Joe_Legal
