Yes, my rear wiper is still working but wiper blade has worn out. Do bother to replace as I don't use it.

Hi all,

I am new here. Just joined today. I have a few question. I hope you guys are able to answer. I have a Toyota Allion 2012 & i want to upgrade the sound system of the car. I am looking for a specific brand like Pioneer. The HU will be AVH-4200NEX. Can you guys please confirm if the head unit will fit in straight away & also looking forward to upgrade door speaker. Please note i haven't planned to use amplifier anytime sooner. Just need the size of the head unit & speakers. It will be really helpful if one can point out which model from http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PUSA/Car/Speakers will fit straight in without any modification.

Thanks in advance for responding.

Hi there.

I'm planning to get a 2nd hand car this couple of week. I am looking into COE cars especially given their low depreciation or a ride that lets me drive for about 4 years. As this is my first time dipping into the car market, will love to hear from the pros what's your thoughts before weighing my options.

I am considering between a 2008 Toyota Allion and a 2008 Kia Cerato. Could i hear for your thoughts on both cars? Fuel Consumption, Maintenance Costs especially for the CVT transmission in the Allion.

Thank you!!

allion will no doubt be the better car. But bear in mind its a JDM and getting spare part will be a headache and not to mention expensive as its rare.

The HU you mentioned (as with all 2-DIN HUs) will be able to fit in.

If you are DIY-ing need to removed the square (silver) panel around the centre console, after that you will be able to see the mounting screws & brackets holding the HU.

Agree, some Allion parts are shared amongst the Altis & Vios also.

vezel is also a JDM... i'm sure the parts are very hard to come by as well. Grab business will soon come to a halt cause most of their car can no longer operate.

my experience tells me not all allion parts are shared by altis or vios.

Try asking how much the dampers cost compared to that of altis and you might be in for a surprise.

Get a head unit specific for "Toyota", its a "Stretched" version of the normal 2Din HU. You can also install the standard HU size but you will need the side covers.

I am driving a 2008 Toyota Premio which is even more rare than Allion. Its reaching 10 years soon in Sept 2018.

Got no problem getting the spare parts via my mechanic like engine mounting, shock absorber but need to order

and wait for 1 to 2 weeks.

The pricing will be slightly higher than Toyota Altis.........for e.g........shock absorber around $50 to $80 higher than Altis

my experience tells me not all allion parts are shared by altis or vios.

True, certain Toyota Premio or Allion parts like shock absorber, engine mounting is different from Altis and Vios.

The shock absorber is just $50 to $80 higher than Altis. Slightly higher price and I don't see any surprise.

vezel is also a JDM... i'm sure the parts are very hard to come by as well. Grab business will soon come to a halt cause most of their car can no longer operate.

According to my car mechanic who is also servicing Vezel, there are tons of spare parts out there.

Vezel is just a simple and common car with not much electronics......thus no worries about the spare parts.

Hi all!

Thank you for all your replies. They were very insightful! Learnt a lot!

Anyway, I was at the car dealer this weekend, most of them who carry Allion recommended me to not go for the Allion due to the CVT transmission which may give hiccups in the future given the age of the car, i.e. 10 years. In the end, I narrowed myself to getting a Hyundai i30 and a VW Polo 1.2.

I had a 8-year old Corolla Fielder for 2 years before it was scrapped. I had initially intended to renew the COE but back then it was still 50k so I scrapped it in the end. It was a CVT just like the Allion.

For cars that are 8 years old, auto gearbox really depends on how the car has been driven, you can get an indication when you test the car how quickly the moving gears engage and the car creeps after repeated gear changes.

Reading the forums, a CVT recondition is about 2k, but that of course is the worse-case scenario. Most competent specialised transmission shops should be able to deal with it.

All the best in your car hunt!
