Inflight EmPower Socket

Anyone knows what this is and where to get it?

 

I was on Cathay Pac website and they mentioned that this socket can be used to power the laptop during the flight.

 

But they NPNT so I searched the net but only Magellan's.

bro, that is for car, not for plane.

 

Empower is plane supply.

Right very similar - the socket is also 12volt DC

Ok empower I understand is 4 pin plug with a 12volt cigarette female socket - that what I gather from

Magellen's Travel write up -

 

Aboard the plane. Some aircraft now offer plug-in power at your seat, usually in Business or First Class. (The electricity is DC, or Direct Current, the type found in your automobile, as opposed to household AC, or Alternating Current.) Take advantage of this unlimited, battery-free power source -- especially on a 10-hour flight, when your battery would run down or you'd need to lug extra batteries. To hook your computer up to the little four-pin socket on an aircraft, you need an "EmPower" adaptor. You also need a standard socket adaptor (the type that goes into an automobile cigarette lighter) to fit between the computer and the EmPower unit.

 

PS Pl excuse my ignorance and out of date info, as I have never travel in first class and the last time I travel was in 1992 to Japan, since then have been staying put in my pigeon hole - so all info is almost obsolete

But I think you should be getting it from your laptop maker ..... specs may not be the same for different brand and model

Yes it operates on 12volt DC out from the car cigarret lighter socket and the output is via USB or yr 220volt two or three plug.

I think nowadays more and more SIA aircraft are being equipped with in-seat power supply for laptop, with socket that takes in US or european plug directly. No need to mess around with a special adaptor plug just to fit the empower socket.

 

See the wikipedia site on SIA, has photo of the latest economy seat (yes, economy) with the above capability...

I will be going over to Dell's webby to take a look.

 

Sidetrack a bit. Used to have an acer but found it tends to run hot compared to the new dell although the dell has very similar config.

Yah...i realised SQ new long haul economy looks good (mr brown also blogged abt it).

 

After receiving the $$ from MIW, got just enuff to book me a flight on traitor air (CX) which costs almost $400 cheaper per pax for a similar flight to SF.

 

So bo pian, gotta EmPower myself on CX, not like SIA, not need for empower, all planned out for you alredi.
