Hi Experts...

I need advice as im intending to polish(wax) my car tonight to prepare for Hari Raya outing this Sat Sun. I had to do this myself as most polishing services are fully booked! And i have only myself to blame for not booking in advance.

All i need is a list of things i should get and where can i get them conveniently.

Im only available to shop for those items after 7pm. Petrol Kiosk, Mustafa, anywhere with late opening hours to recommend?

These are what i have currently.( i know my current set is a joke... [laugh] )

1) Proglaze wash n wax shampoo. (is this good enough for a good wash)

2) A couple of sponges (a rough surface one for the tyre areas n below bumpers and the smooth surface sponge for the body n bumpers.

3) Chamois - To wipe dry my car after wash.

4) Turtle wax - swirl mark remover wax.

5) Turtle wax applicator pads

6) A pad to buff.

7) ArmourAll Tyre shine applicator

8) ArmourAll windscreen cleaner

Are these good enough? or are there better waxes off the shelf(not that ex. appx. <$25) to recommend?

Another thing, my ride has been exposed to rain n shine in an open carpark for 2 years. There are visible trace of water marks on the roof as well as some light fingernail scratches. Do i need to claybar my ride?

If so, where can i buy claybar.

I would appreciate your time to recommend n give me some tips.

I need simple items only...nothing complicating pls. From the set that i have currently,

which one should i continue using and which one should i just stop using them?

Thank you.

off the shelve product, i suggest Autoglym Super Resin Polish or Meguiar's NXT. both can get from Giant Tampines which closes at 12am (suit your timing). but both exceed your budget of $25.

Thank u...

Ah.. great. Its ok if its a little more expensive.

How much would the Autoglym super resin polish if u could remember still?

Out of the 2 u recommended which one do u feel is better at removing minor swirl marks and to give a wet look?

Bro, claybar at Autobacs range from S$8 to S$20. I picked up one for S$10 there & works pretty well. They close at 8pm, so if you move off at 7pm on the dot, should be able to make it. The Autoglym Super Resin Polish is easy to apply & buff off, leaves a nice shiny surface ready for a coat of wax. Think Autobacs is selling this for around S$22.

Hey bro, Thanks for that info...

Just to check wif u, after applying Autoglym resin polish, i still need to apply wax? So the resin polish is to be applied after wash and after that has been buffed off, i use wax to apply(and i could use turtle wax for this case)

Im so new at this... sorry.

Neutral Newbie

if u wan no fuss free.... u shld use Hi-Glaze 88. Can be purchased at most petrol stations.

Add a few caps into a pail, and wash.

Then after washing n wipe dry, use it as a polish n seal. Gives u the ultimate gloss with minimum work.

However this can only last u a few days. But then for the amount of money n effort, this is the best.

Of cos if u dun mind doing more work, there are more much money to be spent and the steps are more complex.... and u need plenty of effort.

You can just leave the finish as it is with Autoglym SRP. But it doesn't actually help to bead water or provide much protection like a good layer of wax does. Yes, you can use Turtlewax on top of it. I'm using Turtlewax Platinum High Gloss wax on top of the SRP. Lasts around a month with a few showers before the beading effect is noticeably low.

Of course, shell out a few more bucks & get Duragloss from MadDriver. The difference is worth the price.

Never had a issue with the residue. Just standby a soft-bristled toothbrush to get into those hard-to-reach areas & use a normal microfibre cloth to clean the shutlines around the doors. If you have a serious residue problem, it could be that you're using way too much of the product. A little goes a long way, so just use a 10-cent coin-sized bead for a panel of around 3 feet x 3 feet.

Want to avoid the problem totally? Mask off all trim & panel gaps before application. Time-consuming initially, but saves you from having to wait till the darn thing is totally dry before you can tackle it with a brush. Not to mention potential light scratches on the paintwork if you use a brush with bristles that are too hard.

Basically, there's no real shortcut around detailing a car properly. It's either more effort now, or more effort later. [;)]
