Was [mad] [mad] [mad] while watching last weekends soccer match between Liverpool vs Birmingham.

Something been telling me that last weekend selection is very [thumbsdown] [thumbsdown] [shakehead][shakehead][shakehead] .

Voromin could not blend well with Dirk Kuyt and always pass to no man's land. As Birmingham is playing 5 midfielders, none of the liverpool midfielders & strikers takes long shorts at goal except for Risse shot. Liverpool team was booed by their fans after the match.

Today ST reported that Rafa defends his decision in filling Voromin & Kuyt instead of Torres backlashed with fresh questions about his controversial rotation policy. Rafa admitted that his side runs out of ideals towards the end of a dreadful game.

[thumbsup] Kudo to Steve Bruce for playing 4 defenders and 5 midfielders to contain liverpool attack.

How many of liverpool fans in SG had lost money in their last 3 games. [smallcry][smallcry][smallcry] where we expected them to win 2 of the games (except for Porto game).

Wake up Rafa, field your strongest team please........ We also need to win back some from S'pore Pool. oops........ [lipsrsealed][lipsrsealed][lipsrsealed]

Neutral Newbie

liverpool should fire rafa and hire jose mourinho!

every season....rafa will say how strong the team will be for the season...and every season they screw up the EPL. the only saving point is that their european competition aren't too bad.

So..... all the low lying teams will adopt Birmingham style of play, 5 midfielders and 4 defenders as liverpool strikers don't shoot from far. [laugh][laugh][laugh]

So will we to see 30 draw matches out of the 38 games for liverpool this season. [sly][sly][sly]

In all honesty,

Liverpool is a good team. But I guess the pressure is on managers to perform.

Rafa has lead them to Euro triumph, league/ fa cup success.

How many teams can afford to be like United or Arsenal, where the manager is really given something like 4 years to gel the team up. (86-90) before united hits the chart during the 90s? and 96-97 where Arsene won.

Gone are those times, now results matters and if Rafa can deliver at the end of the day, who really cares?

And as if jose plays entertaining football? I think he will win nothing if he sticks to that, given he is in the english football for such a short time.

Team rotation is part of the package now. No players can play 40-50 matches in a season, so many distraction ... they are like superstars in the eyes of many. How to cope?

The only way to make sure playing level don't drop is to get similiar players' style which is almost impossible.

Bro, Houllier 5 cup winning season, players played average 40-50+ that season leh..some even hit 60 when included international.

and i find Jose played boring football too..the 1st season he took over....how many 1-0 scoreline he created?more than 10 if i not wrong

Sianz man.. last year, out of the 10 times that liverpool lost in the league, 5 were after the mid-week CL matches. I'm frustrated but not surprised.. anyway liverpool dun really perform well against portsmouth and birmingham.

Dunno why rafa left torres on the bench... frankly, he and kuyt are the better combination of strikers that he has. Babel looked like he hasn't settled in and masherano was poor. Gerrard also wasn't on fire.

If he can play Gerrard and Reina so often, then why can't he do the same to Torres and other key players?

Stability on the team selection does help... although I'll expect more bitching from moaners like Crouch who does not get to play often.

i feel that by "rotating" players this way...he is not creating any sort of understanding or partnership between players or allow a "first XI" to gel... liverpool defence/gk is ok cause they are not rotated as often as the midfield/strikers. as such pool's defenders/gk have a better understanding with each other

by "rotating" players this way, rafa is probably thinking individually (maybe tatical)and do not place much emphasis as a team... In midfield/attack, understanding beween partner(s) is very impt

There is this pattern of play that is really pissing me off.

1. Tries to play passing game by passing the ball from defence to midfield.

2. Midfield got marked closely, so no choice, pass the ball back to defence.

3. Defenders then simply whack the ball into the opponents penalty box or wings.

Usually, the culprits are Carragher, Hyppia, Agger or Risse. Seldom see Finnan do that. Not sure if they are instructed by Rafa to do this, but this is very irritating.

yes... perhaps this is the typical "english" direct style

also ... when JP/babbel/Riise get near to the 12 yard box, very seldom did they try to beat the fullbacks and get to the by-line to cut the ball in/back. rather they will cross the ball into the box and hope for the best

this style usually dosent work against English teams (who defenders are usually good in the air) and teams who put a lot of men behind the ball

indeed another very frustrating game.usually pool gave us no hope right from de start of de season.dis time...there seemed to be hope in de 1st few games.den...all hopes was lost agn after de last 3 games.i'm prepared for another trophy-less season.

anyway i dont understand y rafa needs to rotate so early in de season.de players r all fresh...raring to go...had a gd start...den he rotates everything n spoils de momentum.if he needs to rotate...mayb he can rotate in de middle of de season.dat's when there r many tired legs n some needs to rest.

now arsenal r creating a bigger gap...man u has overtaken us...it doesn't look gd at all... [shakehead]

chelsea has already lost the race tough only a few games. i see chelsea will have alot of problem resuffle the team after mohinho left.

from how man u played so far they seems no chance.

if liverpool play like hw they play derby. they can close the gap and be a true title contender.

arsenal are [thumbsup]

yes. was quite surprise to see them getting better in my opinion after Mr henry departure.

everyone see them cannot make it when captain number 1 patrick left. but things went well. when captain number 2 left. things got better. at least at the start.

i still prefer highbury soccer. with veria pires henry lungberg cole all the french connection with smooth sailing footbll. skill play. at least more like samba
