Kyojin 1st Gear September 20, 2007 Share September 20, 2007 Hi, I'm trying to find a NARROWBAND Oxygen Sensor to hook up to my Apex'i auto timer. I've been to a few stockist and they laugh me off and said my Starlet doesn't need one since it's on carburetor. Then I say, any Toyota O2 sensor will be fine for me, but they won't entertain me further saying i'm wasting their time (?!) Anyway, hope sifus here can recommend me a good narrowband O2 sensor. perhaps it may be better if i should go down with a part number, so if they try to be snide, i can just say buying for a friend. thanks! ↡ Advertisement

Rhys11 Neutral Newbie October 2, 2007 Share October 2, 2007 Actually is not me who need the oyygen sensor, i only replying to another forumer's queries, actually what i've read frm some other websites regarding oxygen sensor that r located after the cataylic convertor, how it works is by reading the amount of oxygen in the exhaust gas, more/less than this XX amount, would trip the check engine light and the ecu will adjust the fuel air ratio, if within the good range then nothing would happen. So its either a pass or fail thing. At first i tot is the sensor will read the quantity of oxygen and adjust in real time the fuel air ratio continously. So its seems like not a too expensive and complicated device, so can believe it is a not too ex thing
Genie47 1st Gear October 2, 2007 Share October 2, 2007 Yes, stock O2 sensors are cheap. Those nice NGK or Bosch widebands are very expensive.
Modas88 Neutral Newbie October 3, 2007 Share October 3, 2007 thats what ive read abt O2 sensors as well. It also seems tat the O2 sensore is a wear & tear part, that needs to be replaced every 50K odd kilometres.

Yeobh 4th Gear October 6, 2007 Share October 6, 2007 Yes, they are basically minute voltage switch- swtiching from 0 to 5 volt at nano second and passing the info to the on-board computer.
