Dynaway 1st Gear September 17, 2007 Share September 17, 2007 Quote Bro, I'm an ex-ITE student myself. I've been through countless interviews that leave me with the feeling that my NTC cert is worth nothing even though I have the required training. I know how it feels to be dismissed by the "elites" of this cruel society. It's disgusting to say the least. hey bro... i'm also an ex-ITE student too.. Automotive trained..... but jus some input having work for sometime liao... there is seriously no big deal abt a uni grad in Singapore... most are jus paper engineers.... some dun even know wat the hell they are talking abt engines..... from wat i gather.... talk can win.... but work hands on... i think can go one corner sux thumb ↡ Advertisement
Sosaria Twincharged September 17, 2007 Share September 17, 2007 (edited) Quote ...My point for posting this article is really to seek opinion on 'Whats so great about assembling a car in Singapore'.....and NOT about looking down on anybody. Well, the article was telling the truth, that the car was assembled by the students and it happened to win the race. But the way you phrase your message is bound to attract "flames" As for whether it's a great achievement "assembling" a car or not, it really boils down to what's the focus of the institution. For the ITE, such hands-on activity is their focus, and therefore, assembling a car is their mark of achievement. What you mentioned, i.e. designing a completely new, revolutionary engine, is more an activity that can earn a PhD and patents, maybe. So you're comparing "apples" and "oranges" really. BTW, being an equipment engineer once, I can confirm that we do need youngsters, especially those in the technical line, to have some hands-on skills, especially with tools. It's absolutely frustrating to have so-called technicians cross-threading screws, apply too much torque and shear off the screw, don't know how to create a screw thread, drop screws from 2nd floor all the way down to the basement then cannot find, etc. etc. Basically, they create new problems instead of solving the original one... So, yes, bearing in mind the above, rest assured that assembling a winning race car can be classified as a legitimate achievement Edited September 17, 2007 by Sosaria ↡ Advertisement
