hmm.. if the foreign legion weren't so dam tough, it might really attract singaporeans to give up citizenship and migrate to france!

afterall, 2.5 years already doing army, might as well make it more worthwhile.

at first they build like no tomorrow, then they full stop until deficit. so is the defence ministry dusting off the plans to read again? :wacko:

 

Look at the figures and one can figure out the manpower issue.

 

We have:

 

Six Frigates and each require 70 personnel = 420 seamen

 

Six Missile Covettes and each require 55 personnel = 330 seamen

 

Eleven Patrol Vessel and each require 40 personnel = 440 seamen

 

Four Mine Counter Vessel and each require 30 personnel = 120 seamen

 

Four Landing Ship Vessel and each require 70 personnel = 280 seamen

 

 

We still have X number of submarines + shore support staff + training centre, etc.........

 

 

Singaporeans wouldnt like to sail, 80% of those I met, dont like sailing cos u are away out in the open sea for days to months. Need more sailors.........

3k???? During my time, my 1WO is earning 5k gross per mth. Mine as a 1SG was 3.3k. My LTA officer was earning less than us, ard 2.5k only. [lipsrsealed] If u r a submariner or diver plus $700 more per mth.

 

Now, I believe it will be more!!!

actually cant blame those regulars...SAF is not a business organisation. the ppl working there are just to maintain the organisation so performance doesnt tally with profit. the most 3 kar to get more bonus only.

actually the salary is not alot...1SG 3.3k maybe alot...but u dont get OT (so i assumed its included in ur pay) and u need to standby 24x7...really not worth it.

 

ok la some ppl do not mind coz given the same amt of time, they would rather slog 24/7 for 3.3k than to earn lesser and do nothing after work also.

Sorry, I'm not rich. Only have a diploma(Nee-ah-ma) cert. 3.3K per mth within 4yrs of grad from poly is a lot to me.

 

I am a poor man. Lots of rich forummers here, sorry. My salary is just a dirt.

Adrain, your pay reflects how many years in service?

 

I feel that your monthly pay is above the median income, including March's perfomance bonus and mid + year end with AWS.

 

Should be quite a comfortable sum of income to feed the family. Assuming a small nucli family.

The increment for saf is very little unless you jump in rank. I remember the increment was like $50 a year.... Without rank increase, I wonder how long can one have to wait to get at least 3k..

That was four years of service. From the rank of Recruit to 1SG. My rank was stagnant for two years and they were ready to give me SSG if I continue to sign on. I am not hard up, so I left the service.

 

If SSG, my pay would increase by S$300+. Then after CPOC(Chief Petty Officer Course), there will be another increase. Two yrs later, would me MSG and pay would be ard 4k plus await for Jaywalk(Warrant Officer course) My former colleagues are now at this stage. After getting 2WO, pay would be bordering/near to S$5k.

 

FYI, mine is only a Diploma cert. SAF does pay well, IMHO. But many of u dont see it this way.

Yup, yearly increment is only $50.

 

Actually rank pay, the jump is not high for us specialist. It is the vocation grade, the jump has more pay difference.

 

When u pass out of BMT, ur grade is 35, either C(Combat) or T(Technical) or CT(Combat Technical).

 

Then the next course upgrading is 45, min rank 3SG.

 

The next one will be grade 55 course where u will undergo petty officer course, min rank 2SG.

 

Followed by grade 65 course, this is currently the max u can go, its a chief petty officer course, min rank SSG.

 

Next it Jaywalk or Warrant Officer course, min rank MSG.

 

Previously, they had grade 75 course, this is the ultimate course where u will receive a COC(Certificate of Competency) pay. It is an increase of S$1k per mth!!! Now no more liao. Very selected few WO are sent to tis course.

 

 

I can go CMPB be a recruitment officer liao. :D

For my Unit its different. Its the Officer that Wayang. WO do most of the work.
