there have been rumours that this battery will screw up at times ( car cannot start). have been floating ard like 2 yrs liao.. reason is becos the yellow top was meant to be a secondary battery( put behind) and the red top to start the car.

Used to use this brand, served me well for 2 1/2 yrs with no probs though my installer told me that he is changing to another brand due to numerous customer complains.

Ya, this is the say hear thing i heard also. Not sure if it is true as no experience on that. May be that is why it is disappearing from the local market.

But reading from the website, it says this battery is built for deep-charging, hence, shouldn't be so problematic. But no one really know for sure ....

Anyone, used this battery first can provide feedback?

Hi Bro,

The battery you have in your car is known as a Starting Battery.

These batteries start engines on cars, boats and other vehicles. They provide a short burst of strong power to get the engine started.

Question is "Do You Need Optima Yellow Top Battery"? This deep cycle battery powers electrical accessories, such as lights, trolling motors or winches. They provide a low, but steady level of power for a longer period of time than a starting battery.

Car alternators are designed not for deep cycle charging purpose.Overtime the alternators variable outputs will damage the batteries - resulting in premature failure.Deep cycle batteries are in fact traction batteries that are designed for continous output use such as wheel chair, electrical scooters, golf trolley, goods stackers etc.Starting the car cause a very high amp surge which is very necessary in order to kick the starter up - such sudden high demand of high output can cause serious damage to the deep-cycle battery.

If you are using one or bank of batteries as an auxilairy unit to power ICE or other 12volt electrcial appliance, I suggest you operate the unit circuit parallel to the car 12 volt system. Regularly charge the deep cycle batteries with an external charger, preferrably one that has a float charging capacity - see photo

the yellow top optima car battery costs like $600 now and suppose to be a really good one as some european cars comes with it - the history of this battery n manufacturer is a good one and the battery is supposed to be above average than almost all normal car batteries.
