For any aftermarket exhaust to be approved, you will need 2 documents,

1) A letter from the muffler or vehicle manufacturer / A certificate from a LTA reconginse independant laboratory to prove that the muffler is designed for your vehicle

2) A report from a LTA reconginse independant laboratory to show that the muffler noise emission is within international standard

In your case for 1), you can either

a) get an Offical letter from Toyota Motor Corp / Toyota Techno Craft (aka TRD) (Note: print out from Website / Installation Manual is not accepted) to show that the muffler is design for your vehicle.

b) send your vehicle, fitted with the muffler, to TUV Singapore for Type Approval which will cost around $20K [:p]

Although LTA accept the Japan JASMA cert for Type Approval, but as TRD is not a member of JASMA, you will not be able to get any JASMA cert for that muffler.

For 2), you can either

a) ask someone in Japan to help get a noise emission report from JVIA (note JASMA cert is not accepted by LTA for noise emission report) for that muffler

b) send your vehicle, fitted with the muffler, to TUV Singapore for Noise Emission test which will cost around $4K [:p]

So, if I will you, I will pay the extra $805 in tax and save all the above trouble.

But then again, they may withdraw the approval like what happen to those HID Honda Stream RSZ. [hur]

Another suggestion will be, you try to get a JASMA certified muffler and ask your fellow Sienta owners to share the $4k noise emission cost.

Hope the above helps [;)]

Thank you for the very detail information. Thats what I was trying to ask all along.

If I pay the tax to make sure the muffler is factory fitted before shipped here, I save all the trouble to certify it as it is a "factory spec".

I guess this is a bit complicated as I am trying to bypass some procedures and high cost.

As long as it's a new JDM exos not registered with LTA, you'll need JVIA and go for first inspection. Have not heard there is a $4K, was told it's normal inspection fee.

If it's already approved JDM exos model (someone has already submitted and approved JVIA with inspection), then all we need is JASMA and go for the standard inspection.

So JVIA cert is a must-have for first time approval with LTA...

Meaning if I can get hold of this JVIA cert from Japan, the whole process will be as easy as sending it for a normal inspection?

How can we get hold of this JVIA cert?

The $4K is the cost to get a TUV report for Noise Emission for the muffler.

For Japanese Brand muffler, if you are unable to get a JVIA Noise Emission Test Report, one of the alternative is to do the test from TUV Singapore.

The $4k was quoted to me around 2 years ago and you will need to made a trip down to KL to do the test.

Not sure if the price has drop now. If anyone has the current pricing for TUV Noise Emission test, pls let me know.

Thanks

I guess thats why the exo MO requires at least 10 ppl to be economically feasible. Say 4000 divide by 10 plus cost of exo, between 900-1100.

I am just wondering what is the cost to attain this JVIA cert.... seemed expensive too.
