whether can downshift to so low or not in the first place... whahaa

sometimes if the veh speed/engine speed too high, it'll be over-ride the manual downshift

1. Depending on the gear ratio. Based on personal experience, there is not much effect after 120Km/h. Downshift to D3 and then depress accelerator to kick in. Once picked up is felt then shift back to D then enjoy.

2. I remembered that the user manual mentioned two things:

a) when at stationery, if want to accelerate, downshift and depress accelerator and shift back to D.

b) when at motion, do the same thing to pick up speed. Again, the highest I go to downshift is below 120Km/h.

3. I've been doing this for 3 years.

oh kelpie thats quite enlightening. never thought of shifting down to D3 before. D3 doesnt mean its meant for the hills right? just retains the rev longer before changing the gear?

Another thing that is confusing is the opening of the VTEC twice...i think one fellow forumer earlier stated that it opens a second time at 6000rpm. but the thing is that the auto tranny changes gear even before i touch 6000rpm. in this case how do i make use of the second opening of VTEC, and enjoy the "I'm on VTEC y0" feeling haha.

1. I'm not sure which Honda model you are driving, for the ES, if you want to use VTEC, simply drop gear to D3 and depress accelerator, don't have to look at the rpm. For the supposedly stage 2 VTEC, you can only achieve it at and beyond 120Km/h.

2. No lah, D2 to D3 are not necessarily for the hill. Honda doesn't invent a 4 speed gearbox just for climbing hills right?

3. If you have not tried, suggest that you do it gradually. Try to find one deserted area, stop, downshift to D3, then depress accelerator, once the momentum is felt, shift back to D. To experience so called stage 2, you gotta hit at higher speed/rpm and drop gear again and do the same. ES can hit 200Km/h with the 2nd stage VTEC.

4. Of course, to safeguard against wear and tear, you can install an ATF cooler, which I did. By the way, if you want speed, make sure you have proper braking system, strut bars, good tyres and the relevant.

ME ON VTEC YO...

Subjective, if you ask me. Lets treat it as a form of insurance. To me, no harm installing one since it does not cost a lot these days.

if iam not wrong,ES civic is not as wild as the older EG and EK series.

i mean compare SOHC against SOHC.

i heard the ES just change from 12valves to 16 valves and does not have the high cam lift.

Of course, ES has no wild cam and its VTEC is subtle compare with the previous series. But it is still there. Just need to know how to kick it in.

eg SOHC is having a bhp of 130, EK SOHC is having bhp of 115 and ES is having a bhp of 110 (correct me if i'm wrong). [:)] there is b16a orginal engine and b16b(type R mostly used for Track. civic ek9). B18 is also mostly good for track. engine from DC2 Integra. both b16b and b18 is having a bhp of 200 and above good to whack the vtec. think if iam not wrong can take on a stock wrx [lipsrsealed] . B20 is good for normal driving and when the Vtec kick in its fierce and the sound of vtec is very sweet to hear. tho i am using a B20 in my EG. i seldom on my vtec only once in a while. i did my engine in AMK. [cool] .

They missing a lot,the sound of engine scream is inlove.gif

Subjective lah. I personally think that sound is crude. Prefer a flat six or M engine sound anytime. Like I said, its subjective

Money not enuff...never xperience those b4 [laugh]

seems so fun.

but some vtec kick in early some alter.

but why some v-tec got sound but car move slow?

auto if do that gear box will tear right? wear

1. Auto gearbox are unlike those of yesterday. I don't know about the reliability of other made but the use of up and downshifting of gear is mentioned in the Honda owner manual.

2. It was mentioned in the owner manual that D auto mode is used for normal driving. D3 can be used to keep transmission from cycling between 3rd and 4th gear in stop and go driving. For faster acceleration when in D3 or D auto-mode, you can get transmission to automatically downshift by pushing the accelerator pedal to the floor. The transmission will shift down 1 or 2 gears, depending on your speed. Use D2 when starting out on a slippery surface to reduce wheelspin. Not much mention on D1 but is does mention that by upshifting and downshifting through D1, D2, D3 and the 4th, you can operate this transmission much like a manual transmission without a clutch pedal.

3. Most of the time, D or auto mode is used. Only when the need of power is required, downshifting can be used in Honda auto gearbox.

4. To monitor the on and off state of VTEC more accurately, Honda fans usually install at least a VTEC controller.

Does Vtec need intercooler? i mean judging from the so many techniques and power it generates ..i would assume we need cooling... how about VTEC Bov? i mean besides the emblem having a sound version will tell people about the VTEC ....

I hope i can get a Bolt-on VTEC for my Kompressor

Intercooler? Not sure about previous generation. At least I don't use one for my ES. I just add an ATF cooler. You want sound? go get a Turbo sound simulator lor [laugh]. I don't like noise, I prefer car that can run swiftly, smoothly and quietly with a slient kill!
