The E36 comes in 316, with rear drum brakes. Back then, I believe PM brought it into SG to compete with the Civic SIR, which was priced slightly over S$100k.

 

The E46 base model here is 318, but has a 1.9litre engine.

the older models 316 are 1.6l, while 318 being 2l and 320 having the infamous 6pot 2.2l

 

 

but the new 320i u see on the roads today are just 4pot 2l models.

Let me share what I know

 

PML specially bought in 250 units of E36 (316i) in Beg 1994 to celebrate their new showroom at 316 Alexendra Road. All sold out at S$125K.

 

New Model E46 base model come with 318 with 1.9 litre engine and facelift model has a 2.0 litre engine.

The pic definitely shows a E46 (as below) not a E36. E46 rear lights are quite different from E36.

basically the E46 316i was manufactured for certain euro markets where taxes for cars were very high.even higher than here. It was not meant for export outside these markets. I think greece is one of the few markets tat got this model. am nt sure of any others at the moment. sgp did nt get this model because i think it was strictly LHD.
