Fitvip Supersonic September 7, 2007 Share September 7, 2007 (edited) Not in possession of an NRIC is not an offence, if one can prove his/her identity with other documents, e.g. driving licence, passport, etc. But if the police is not satisfied with, or have reason to believe that the documents produced do not belong to the person, then it becomes an issue. He can bring him/her back for failing to furnish particupars. So, carrying it with us is a safer bet! Edited September 7, 2007 by Fitvip
Maxus-MIFA9 Supersonic September 7, 2007 Share September 7, 2007 Dun think so...from the Criminal Procedure Code online...doesn't say anything abt IC... Refusal to give name and residence. 33.
Guyver 1st Gear September 7, 2007 Share September 7, 2007 No ... you don't have to ... think unless it is later than 10pm .... you not kidding are you? i'm quoting from a legal website "Under the present law, it would appear that it is not an offence to be without your identity card but the officer stopping you has the right to require that it be produced at a stated time and place. " So what now? Must show or cannot show?
Altivo 3rd Gear September 7, 2007 Share September 7, 2007 (edited) Matas can ask to check your IC...but if u have some other form of ID, and they are satisfied, then I guess they won't arrest... yes.. u're right.. passport, bus pass, driver license all can. As long as the ID shows the vital information and it has your PHOTO on it. Technically, matas have NO right to see your NRIC. They only have the right to see some form of identification which is listed above. It's just that we always assume ID is NRIC. Sotong_kia Neutral Newbie September 8, 2007 Share September 8, 2007 it is not illegal not to have your NRIC with you. To prevent theft, loss and have to pay $100... keep it at home.. Carry a Photocopy of your NRIC.... Carry your Driving License.. More than enough... Unless you want to apply for things, then bring the actual NRIC. Or you suay, the mata dun like your face, make you bring your actual NRIC to his station to verify. ↡ Advertisement
