For ward charges, doctor's fees n paediatrician's fees u can use medisave for a certain amount only, for private hospitals. For government restructured hospitals, it seems that you can use medisave to pay for ward charges, doctor's fees 100%. BB bonus will be given to u once the birth of your child is registered and the form is submitted. If I'm not wrong, it is given in 4 instalments of $750 each.

Wld yr wife prefer female or male? What abt u?

I can recommend Dr Kek Lee Pin (female) who is very good, patient & explain to you the various options

Gynaecology Associates

3 Mt Elizabeth Rd

#12-18

Mt Elizabeth Hospital/Medical Ctr

Tel:67323433

She actually prefers female initally.. Now leaning towards males because of all the horror stories of female gynaes.

Ok, Dr Kek is female.

Just let me share w u how experienced she is. In the event that yr wifey has to go for C-section, Dr Kek still believed in traditional method of sewing, skill not bad. Dun encourage stapling nor using glue. Will give u the options in medical emergency.

For my 1st kid, induced as overdue. Then, allowed us to try for natural & was very decisive plus resourceful when we had to go for emergency c-section after 24hrs of trying.

My sister also go to her. In the event, u opt for Mt E doctor. Park at CK Tang when u go for consult. The parking charges at Mt E, Lucky Plaza can concuss. Plus Mt E carpark, u had to use the elevator parkg if too crowded, very time consuming.

Rating for following pte hospital:-

(1) Mt E

(2) Mt Alvernia

(3) Gleneagles

East shore & Thomson CMI.

Hope this help u.

DL, they hv packages.

I took packages for both pregnancy. If worse case hv to do C-section, I wld suggest LA not GA for medical reasons plus less side-effects. Reasons:-heartbeat not totally reliant on machine (less 1 doctor's cost), no puking, wozzy the next day. Best of all, u get to see all that is happening in the OP. Dr Kek will advise on the differences btw LA & GA.

1st one, emergency C-section plus LA, 4 bedder. Sry this was in '99, my records incomplete.

The 2nd one was a planned C-section as advised by Dr Kek for medical reasons in '03. Opt for 4 bedder but ended up in single rm cos renovation plus delivered on a popular wk.

C-section plus LA. The figures provided are as detailed as I can get

Up front cash S$2912, refunded S$1032.36 after hospital claimed part of it by CPF(hospitalisation bill+partial gynae fee). Refund came in 2wks after discharge.

S$901 gynaecologist package (balance claimed under medisave)

S$52 remove dressing

Folic acid, iron pills, calcium pills I get fm outside pharmacy cos it is the same thing plus so much cheaper.

Overall, I find it worth-while, really better to go for LA. My ex-boss went for GA, Gleneages, 1 bed paid more than 10k after excluding CPF. Recovery slower, spend more days at the hospital due to the side effects of GA.

Good afternoon, Bro DarkLord [wave]

With the everlasting record of performing the highest number of deliveries coupled with the lowest maternal and foetal complication rates in Singapore, KKH should be considered to be the place for your wife's pregnancy follow-up.

Though it may be perceived by many as being less 'branded','prestigious' or 'pleasant' as the private institutions, KKH has the necessary medical facilities and expertise to manage pregnancy mishaps. Should options run dry at the private hospitals, KKH is nevertheless the sole avenue for them to channel their distressed patients thereafter.

Amongst the committed obstetricians at KKH, one stands out as

the most dedicated (turning up for work even earlier than her house-officers),

straightforward (neither advocating non-essential fortnightly or monthly antenatal visits and ultrasound scans nor recommending Caesarean Section or prescribing 'one thousand and one' supplements at every opportunity for well mothers) and caring (very few obstetricians can be on par with her in terms of the volume of gratuitous gifts, letters and pictures).

Her name - Dr KT Tan [thumbsup]

I for one know the above facts as my 7 month old baby ger ger is a proud KKH kid and my family has a wonderful time bonding together during those pregnancy visits and antenatal classes. With her professionalism, Dr KT Tan provides us with useful, no-nonsense information on what to expect for the various stages of pregnancy and labour.

There is never any emphasis on those fiscally oriented, state-of-the-art 3-D/4-D ultrasonography and socially indicated Caesarean Section. Ultimately, nothing beats seeing your child in the real world right? With the higher risk of surgical and anaesthetic complications associated with Caesarean Section, the preferred route of delivery is almost always vaginal unless pre-existing maternal or foetal distress sets in. Furthermore, never fall into the trap of believing that your wife's pelvic outlet is classified as too narrow for vaginal delivery and thus Caesarean Section is advisable. It is because up to this point in time, there is no accurate means of calibrating a woman's pelvic adequacy in vaginal delivery. The same goes for the foetus where the mass in-utero is at best an estimate.

You won't regret visiting KKH. It's definitely worth every minute and cent [;)]

Have a nice day [sunny]

i have a medical background, and i strongly second J_C boy's recommendation. It is not the service that the o+g doc who helps you that matters.... most of the time , a normal delivery just needs a midwife....the o+g is there to collect money for the scan and to congragulate u being a father, and to be quick as hell when there is a need for a crash caesar ( C-section ). i have worked in KKWCH O+G before...

Dr KT Tan is among the most popular and the most expensive there for private.....

u will want KKWCH not for their O+G dept, but for their neonate department, just in case of complications.....(touch wood)...belive me, i dont belive they have a functional neonate dept at MT E, Mt alvernia or Gleneagles...i have seen many sick newborns been transfered to SGH, KKWCH and NUH neonate departments cos the private hospitals cant cope.....

just my two cents, the choice is of course yours, expectant father....

I second that.

KK sometimes quite Jia Lat

Too many priorities, then end up substandard service.

Got a few friend who gave birth there. All complaint like siao.

My cousin also deliver there. Told me, if given a choice, would have went else where.

KK more ex. than private! [furious]

Is it??? But most of my frens delivered in KK as well as my 2 cousins leh... [:/]

my 2 kids were delivered by Dr.Kek too...3 yrs apart.

She has the "ah soh" look but is patient in explaining all the related medical term

to us and my wife was comfortable with her.

Main problem with Mt.E as mentioned is the carpark charges, as mentioned if u r going for routine checkup...can still park at Paragon...will cost abt 4 dollars for 2 hrs visit. The parking at Mt.E was abt 1.70 per half hr !!!

During delivery, I parked at Tangs which cost $10 per day but should have increased by now.

Quote from Straits Times forum today:

Appalling service at Thomson Medical Centre

I REFER to the report, 'Thomson Medical chief wins entrepreneur award' (ST, Sept 5).

First, I would like to congratulate Dr Cheng Wei Chen on his achievement. It is truly inspiring to read that his dream of transforming the experience of childbirth has been a success and to see his dream expand further.

However, he said, 'Where else can mothers order drinks in their bedrooms?', which conflicted with my experience at Thomson Medical Centre (TMC). My wife gave birth to our second child at TMC on Aug 8. Our first child was also born there some 21/2 years ago. One evening, my wife called the nurse from her room for a cup of hot Milo as she wanted to take it with her medication. To her surprise, she was told they did not have Milo and she would have to wait till the next round of meals. My wife ended up going down to a cafe on the ground floor to get her drink - barely 48 hours after giving birth via Caesarean.

On another occasion, I was standing just outside the nurses counter at level 5 where my wife's room was and overheard a telephone conversation where one of the patients also asked for a cup of hot Milo to be taken to her room. The nurse said they did not have Milo but she would try to get one out of politeness when the patient insisted. After putting down the phone, the nurse complained to her colleague. She said: 'She called for Milo. She thinks we are a hotel? Can order room service?' I had the impression that patient would not get her drink either.

Given my accounts of what actually happens in TMC when patients try to get a drink, I think Dr Cheng does not have a clear picture of what is happening at ground level. Perhaps you can order a drink but to get it is a different story.

I also noted that the level of service has declined since we had our first child in 2004. It would be sad to see TMC lose out to its competitors because of this as I believe it has a lot of potential. For TMC to stay up there with the best, service cannot be compromised. We paid more than $12,000 for the delivery of our children at TMC and many of us would expect service to match that.

Bro, found 2 recommended ones from my search:

1. ESH by Dr Heng

Dr Heng's clinic number is 64407266

You can check out Dr Heng Tung Lan. She is very popular at ESH, and her cost is very reasonable

ask the nurse what should I bring for my admission

But in the printout, it was stated that we bring :

1) Dressing gown, pyjamas

2) Slippers

3) Toiletries - comb, bath gel, toothpaste, toothbrush, talcum powder, etc

4) Identity card, passport

5) Marriage cert, birth cert

6) Nursing bra

7) Baby vests, mittens, booties and wrapping blanket

Absolute, yes Dr Heng is my gynae too

Experience in Eastshore is great. Nurses are friendly and the environment cosy and warm.

I find that the nurses (from delivery to ward to nursery) are very helpful & genuinely attentive to my needs. Also, the confinement food there are just yummy!

East Shore will provide a baby bathtub, diaper bag FOC. You can request glass bottles from them before discharge

Dr Heng, her charges for the C-section was $1800. But my bill came up to nearly $2600 (after medisave deductions) cos I opt for 1 bedded and my hubby was also staying with me.

=================================================

2. Dr Paul Tseng at TMC. He is a very nice and friendly doctor. Appointments with him is more like a chit chat session. Initially when I had spottings, I was super worried, but he made great efforts in explaining things to me and making sure that i was really assured.

Besides, he wont ask me to go home and rest and wait for the next appt, knowing I am so worried about the condition of my pregnancy. Instead, he was kind enough to suggest I go for a blood test to measure the HCG level that day, and go back 3 days later to measure again. This allows me to know that the surge in HCG level is an indication that my pregnancy is all well.

And even though he is quite popular, he does not pack all his appointments sardine-tight. Everytime I go him, it's a mere waiting time for 15 mins, generally. I find this is reasonable, rather than those docs who jam pack their appointments back to back. One delay and that's it.

I will recommend him :)

You can call 6254 2878.
