Sw20 2nd Gear September 4, 2007 Share September 4, 2007 Hey bros, lets review and share the pros and cons on this product, hopefully, they'll do a firmware or hardware with extra functions. This is better than any GPS i ever tried, in terms of speed, accuracy and clarity. I get quicker Sat fix, than tibo or asus pda 686 (if i am not wrong about the model). Using a G10 format, well, most companies will be using that format soon. (future proof) Can't wait for the firmware to watch video in car. Price is unbeatable. I just want a jack to plug in headphones! ↡ Advertisement

Mivec9 1st Gear September 4, 2007 Share September 4, 2007 Hey ppl, here's link for downloads for Holux 53CL, namely manual and spec http://www.holux.com/product/search.htm?fi...&level=grandson
Rskeisuke Clutched September 4, 2007 Share September 4, 2007 http://fatbombom.blogspot.com/2007/09/holu...smile-53cl.html some pics of my unit with some of my comments..(copied from another thread) i bought mine on saturday at the show. initial lock on to satellite is quite fast, under one min from cold. Subsequent startup, only need about 20-30 secs to be fully functional(under open sky, not inside MSCP) I'm getting PDOP as low as 1.3 at times!! Thumbs Up volume can be adjusted, it's under "Others" in the main menu. Can also turn off speed warning.. i turn mine off, cos the "Please slow down... please slow down" when I'm doing 60km/h on a 50 is darn irritating! I prefer the lady voice to the man's. Nod I also find using "Low" under highway detail is better as it only tells you the next exit that is coming up rather than next 3 exit. I find the re-routing(i.e. when you make a wrong turn) acceptable, takes about 6-7 secs, but sometimes it tells you to do a u-turn instead of using another route. Driving into and coming out of CTE tunnel is also not much of a problem, as the re-acquiring of GPS signal is very fast...
Rskeisuke Clutched September 4, 2007 Share September 4, 2007 Looking at the official Holux webby, one can immediately see the vast difference between Garmin(worldwide renowned brand) and Holux(small time player).
Madsumm 1st Gear September 4, 2007 Share September 4, 2007 One big difference is the maps. I seriously thing getting GPS for SG use is a big waste. My GPS is used for Germany, US and most part of Canada and Europe. Only maps that are accurate and available for use for these countries is Garmin. That is the biggest differentiator. Hardware is something, but software for this case, is more important I feel. Rgds
Rskeisuke Clutched September 4, 2007 Share September 4, 2007 dun get me wrong.. the mapking maps of SG is pretty good.. i'm just commenting on the outlook of Holux webby compared to Garmin. I bought my unit because I will be driving up north quite frequently. For that, the Malsingmap of Peninsula Malaysia, which comes with the unit is good too! Contax 1st Gear September 4, 2007 Share September 4, 2007 (edited) yes please let us know here again once you've try out the malsing map of west malaysia.Looking seriously at getting one too since I'll be using it for SG and MY only!! Madsumm 1st Gear September 4, 2007 Share September 4, 2007 (edited) No prob. I know for SG map, Mapking is nice. Including MY maps. But I feel GPS bought just to cater to these 2 maps are a bit wasteful. It should be global. Because it can be used everywhere. Unfortunately, maps are not available for most GPS devices. Only one I see has official full coverage is Garmin. Dun get me wrong too, just my personal feel on spending on a GPS Rgds Edited September 4, 2007 by Madsumm
Sw20 2nd Gear September 4, 2007 Author Share September 4, 2007 Just to let you know, the Malsing map is more accurate than the mapking map. u can find jusco etbrau city with it and also... houses in selangor! Amazing~ wont go wrong or get lost with it. I just wonder how are we going to update the map.
Rskeisuke Clutched September 4, 2007 Share September 4, 2007 (edited) i did post this thing about updating our maps before buying. IIRC, even if there are updates to malsingmap, we cannot use it right off the net. We have to wait for mapking to do some stuff to it before we can get them from mapking webby. yes you are right, during the demo, he recommended to use MapKing only for SG. In MY, I think malsing is better due to more contributions from users. Edited September 4, 2007 by Rskeisuke
Beei 1st Gear September 4, 2007 Share September 4, 2007 Bought on Sunday.. Not really using it in Singapore. Speed is fast, accuracy is also good, clarity also good.. Quite value for money.. Now that i have explored its functions + advice from MCF bros(see the GPS thread), found it a good device.. Only thing i dun like is the male zombie voice and the speed warning.. But the warning voice can be switched off..
