Yanuk Neutral Newbie September 4, 2007 Share September 4, 2007 this is a common mis-conception. sirf star 3 isn't more sensitive to GPS signals any more than sirf Star 2 chipsets. Just that the sirf-star 3 chipsets (essentially the software) is able to make better use of the available GPS signals to get faster time to first fix (TTFF)which is seriously just a matter of seconds difference. The better systems out there offer "instant fix" technology which I feel is better, but sadly not available in SG. Also claimed "more accurate" position or better HDOP (which i cannot really see much diff). Anyway, whether the solar film affects the GPS signal is regardless of brand. It has more to do with the material. Mainly (but not all) it is the metallic/reflective ones will give some signal losses. Those films that just block IR/UV in clear/black types doesn't cause any measurable losses.
Reuters Clutched November 27, 2007 Share November 27, 2007 I'm using my IPAQ 6965 as a GPS device with vkool newly-installed.. so far so good.. doesn't seem to really block the GPS signal..

Donraj Neutral Newbie November 27, 2007 Share November 27, 2007 I'm using 3M. Not sure about GPS signal, but blocks radio signals a bit. Depends heavily on the quality of the solar film used.

Watwheels Supersonic November 30, 2007 Share November 30, 2007 (edited) Tinting are design to block/filter UV rays and Infra-red rays from the sun. I dunno what radio signals u'r refering to but I think u'r somewhat misunderstood. If u'r refering to some remote control for auto gates and such, ok some are using infra-red but I dun think your tinting is so tok kong it totally blocks it out. I've used such remote controls in my car b4, no issues plus I dunno even have to take it out to point at the auto gate to activate to open.
