Neutral Newbie

A main concern of sourcing for a printer is the running cost. Cartridges and toners cost should be a consideration as well.

As far as Brother goes, it is reliable given my past and current experience using this brand. One thing I don't like however is the need for a separate toner and drum. The drum is to replaced every 4 toner change, approximately. The cost of the drum in some cases, are more expensive than the 'entire' printer+toner. [confused]

I went down yesterday looking for a printer and bought a Samsung... [:p]

To add on: At the Harvey Norman booth, Lexmarks printers (all in one) going for $78 + free gift as well. Good deal. If yes, might pop over and get it...

I'm looking at inkjet for home use only. For laser printing, I print it in the office. [:p]

My HP MFC printer up lorry, sent to HP, they say old model, cannot repair already. If wana take back must pay $$$. I donate it to them n now looking for replacement, not HP brand one. [:|]

sorry to dig up old thread

any recommendations for multi purpose printer/ scanner for home office?

mainly print and scan documents

not for printing photos etc

prefer something with cheaper maintenance i.e. more economical print cartridge replacement

i bought a Brother B/W laser printer at IT show last month.

it was to replace the colour inkjet that we have, and which we seldom use, and which made us v angry cos the ink will vaporise...

Just less than $200, can scan in colour too.

got wifi, can connect using phone/comp, so suits our needs...

nowadays you can use your handphone to be the scanner as most probably for documents/receipt.

Paste the piece of document on the floor/wall and use the handphone to take and send it to the

PC or wifi to the printer(preferably a Lazerprinter) ink cartridge dries easily.

I use a fuji xerox m225 dw as I need a ADF which is sufficiently fast.

Printout is crisp.

Scan thru TWAIN in Windows 10 64-bit and Support TWAIN in Windows 10 64-bit.

Eh.... can just buy a printer with copy function.  Don't think will cost a lot more.

A couple of years ago, when I was helping my father with publishing a pictorial book, i used my photo to take photo and also scan old photos.

But the effect is not good enough for reproduction (print), although it's fine on-screen.

Eventually i still had to use my printer/scanner to scan it to get the high-res clear effect.

Install Microsoft Office Lens app and scan using your smartphone. It beats taking picture with no other disturbing background objects. Shadows and unwanted tilts are removed automatically.  [thumbsup]  [thumbsup]  [thumbsup]

Ya. I brought the Brother MFC. However, with inkjets, the ink dried up and choke the print head as i do not print often. Now just using the scan function only.

I have another laser colour printer just for printing only.

However, most of the time, i print at office.
