Lowering Spring - Spring rates

Hi guys, would like to find out more, about spring rates. Till now, still kinda confused. Not sure if this is correct folder to post. Understand there is a thread here:

but does not have the definition on spring rates.

 

Whats the spring rate kg/mm means? The higher spring rate, the stiffer it is? If wana get lowered, with maximum comfort like stock, which is better?

 

Example:

 

RSR Ti2000: F3.5 R7.8

Espelier: F:3.8 R8.0
