Almost every month there is at least one case of vehicle fire - looks like either car safety is not up current requirements, or too much mods or our auto electricians are just simple wire man.The other posiblity is too much careless DIY on fuel system and electrical acc.installation.

Two men died in a burning car along Sixth Avenue at about 4am on Saturday (25 August). STOMPer Tony Hew, who saw the car burst into flames and took this photo at 4.07am, said: "There was no chance for anyone in the car."

"Car went off the road at Sixth Avenue, hit a tree before landing in the

monsoon drain alongside it.

"It burst into flames almost immediately and there was no chance for anyone in the car," the STOMPer said in an email at 11am today.

STOMP contacted the Police, which said the vehicle hit the boundary wall of a housing unit along Sixth Avenue, in the direction of Holland Road.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said one man was found trapped in the driver seat and the other in the front passenger seat when rescuers arrived at the scene within seven minutes of a call about a car on fire.

It said the two men were pronounced dead at 4.35am.

The SCDF said it received a call about a car on fire at 4.02am.

"The SCDF responded with two fire bikes, one fire engine and one ambulance to a car fire along Sixth Avenue, towards Bukit Timah," it said at about 11am today.

"Upon arrival at the incident site at 4.09am, SCDF firefighters saw a car engulfed in flames and proceeded immediately to extinguish the fire.

"The fire was swiftly extinguished by SCDF within 5 minutes using 1 water jet and 2 impulse guns.

"SCDF firefighters found 2 male casualties trapped in the driver seat and the front passenger seat.

"They were extricated within 15 minutes. They were pronounced dead at scene by SCDF Paramedic at 4.35am."

Once lived at Sixth Ave. Many accidents one. Last year, also SLK and Ford Mondeo burst into flames. People using Sixth Ave sometimes drive like it's the highway.

I wonder if this would affect the sales of the MX-5 from now onwards..

I think will not deter those who love mx5.

It's a nice car but unfortunately mishap do happens anytime, anywhere and any car.

It is nonsense that the accient happened becaue it is the 7th month.

I do not know the cause of the accident, but this accident is obviously caused by the driver, not the 7th month roaming ghosts (if any).

The damage to the vehicle is also a clear indication that the 50km/h speed limit had been exceeded.

Neutral Newbie
hope it's not another drink-driving case. may them rest in peace.

the rim looks like MX5's rim...

i got a huge shock when i realised who these 2 guys...

a month ago, while i was driving along dunearn on my way home, from my rear mirror, i saw this open top gray MX5 zooming in very very fast and cut from the extreme outer lane to the inner without signalling whatsoever. It was a very irresponsible act and that sent a few drivers jamming on their brakes.

the driver was a young chinese fellow and the passenger, a young blonde hair caucasian.

at that moment, I was telling my wife this driver is crazy and he might get into trouble sooner or later...

when i saw the news today, i was shocked. i am pretty sure the victims were the same one i saw last month...

not to be rude to the deceased' families but the driver drive really recklessly along sixth avenue and dunearn road not once but a couple of times.

nonetheless, may their souls rest in peace.
