Vtim 3rd Gear August 25, 2007 Share August 25, 2007 looks like I still have to carry on hunting for used light weight 16" or 17" rims to replace my current 11kg+ 17" rim
Vit4wd 1st Gear August 25, 2007 Share August 25, 2007 The cost of the new light rims will drown all your savings in Fuel Consumption, if any at all.
Vtim 3rd Gear August 25, 2007 Share August 25, 2007 that's why I am looking for used light weight 16" or 17" rims lah got to drive this MPV for another 4 to 5yrs, so return will be there, imagine I'm getting only 6+km/L now
Vit4wd 1st Gear August 25, 2007 Share August 25, 2007 Makes sense to get used rims. You can pump 92RON for Trajet to save on petrol bill.

Sony 1st Gear August 25, 2007 Share August 25, 2007 Not really driving at these speeds will help. Improve aero dynamics or should i say all cars differ in aero dynamics. Bad will increase drag Drag = FC bad Improve Drag and FC will be good. Tyres also play a part, BIG HEAVY RIMS will give u BAD FC. kekeke. All in all, my conclusion to everyone. STOP being PARANOID about FC and just drive. Sure u can save some $, but how much $$ can u really save!? Is it really WORTH?!?! Tell it to those driving at road hogging speed
Sony 1st Gear August 25, 2007 Share August 25, 2007 (edited) All the results in the tests as stated in the website is from the car on-board fuel efficiency gauge. if your car got one, you can test out what is your car best fuel efficient speed. of course you have to make sure each speed condition is consistent with the rest. Afterwhich by plotting fuel efficiency Vs speed, you should get a pretty good idea what speed is best for your car. I don't have a on-board fuel effciciency gauge. If i had one, it will be so much easier for me to find out the best speed for my car. I have one and its efficiency is nowhere at the speed which the article talk about. reason being that cars' kerb weight. gear ratio, road condition, etc etc is different. and to plot a graph just to find the most efficient way to save petrol, I rather use the time to earn more money to pay for more petrol. I think that is a bit overkill. I think I still have a life However, we can check on the presure on the pedal by looking at the instant consumption to find the point whereby the speed can be maintain and not go about wasting additional petrol. Kiatmobile 1st Gear August 26, 2007 Share August 26, 2007 Actually Singapore drivers do not horn or show middle finger if you drive on the left most lane at 60 to 70km/h. Even if it is on the right lane, they are still quite patient. Majority are actually quite gracious drivers. Unfortunately, you are wrong... Wheni got my car brand new, was driving at most left lane, vans, lorries, trucks are following me real close indicating me to be fast..... Even after they drove pass to overtake me, some would starred at you while others would flash their hands at you giving you hand signals....
Vit4wd 1st Gear August 26, 2007 Share August 26, 2007 (edited) Let me explain why these delivery trucks always speed. Do you know why? Because their companies expect them to be superman. My company uses DHL. The poor DHL man is always so stressed. Once as I was talking to him when he delivered me some 25kg empty boxes, he said that he has 40 other companies to visit by 1pm. I said: This is impossible, but he said it can be done, provided he speeds, which is what he always does. He said that he gets penalised if he does not deliver them by schedule, although he refused to elaborate on the penalties. Kohks Neutral Newbie August 26, 2007 Author Share August 26, 2007 Hi, according to the website, pule and glide do not requried autostop. i also think it is dangerous to do an autostop. it is best not to even try autostop. you will lose power steering and brakes. as what Genie47 said, taxi drivers and some lorry drivers also used this pulse and glide technique. but i think they do it wrongly. they step on the accelerator and let go too frequent and too much. you can feel the acceleration and decceleration pulses. my gut feeling to this method is that the end results should be smooth. like i said previously my car do not have a fuel consumption gauge, so i cannot judge whether my intepretation of this method is ok or not. well my intepretation fdor this method is when the accelerator is stepped on, it should be a smooth acceleration to the targeted speed. during the glide phase, the pedal should be release only slightly. there should still be some petrol flowing into the engine. by releasing the pedal completely engine braking will come in. we do not want this. so i think this phase is very difficult to get it right. from the website, for a smooth glide, the speed will drop very slowly. the engine feels very smooth. i am still practising and monitering the results to see if it works. if your car got a on-board FC gauge, let me know how much improvement we can get from this method (properly executed of course). Kohks Neutral Newbie August 26, 2007 Author Share August 26, 2007 you have to find out what is your optimum speed based on your on-board FC gauge, if your car comes with one. Like what Sony said, all car should have its optimum speed. the point is how to check. i can only try with tankful of petrol. tedious process for me. Kohks Neutral Newbie August 26, 2007 Author Share August 26, 2007 yes, it is dangerous. better stick to a safer tyre pressure.
Sony 1st Gear August 26, 2007 Share August 26, 2007 This "pulse and glide" (nice sounding name ) or in a much simpler term which is called "lift your bloody heavy foot off the accelerator" is usually used when you are cruising, i.e. in overdrive and having abtain your desired speed, eg. 80 or 90km/h. So when you are in overdrive, the engine brake is actually very minimal, thus you can afford to let go completely, esp when it's on downward sloping expressway. Anyway, it's not rocket science, I wonder why this thread and the article stated it to be so complex ↡ Advertisement
